Re: T61 inverter board problem
I have some more bad news - fuses are being installed so they could protect Power MOSFETs and driving MOSFETs. However, usually, when spike is too big for a fuse to protect electronics by blowing, some driving MOSFETs also burn. I can safely say that if you fail to solve the problem by changing the ...

Re: X60 HDD Recommendations
Just installed two WD 320gb Scorpio Black (7200, 16mb) in my X60s and my brother's HP nc6400 - running excellent, very nice upgrade from Toshiba 5400 60gb and Hitachi 7k100 80gb. I didn't want to go Seagate route, since the new 7200.4 Momentus is having some major issues with reliability (I do have ...

Re: T61 Battery Charging Issue
Probably charging circuits. Basically, there's 3 things that could go wrong with this: 1. Power mosfets, 2. Fuses, 3. Li-ion battery control ic. Power mosfets used for charging/discharging are very ESD sensitive, meaning touching them a lot is not advisable unless you'd want to fry them for some rea...

Re: X60s battery dead; battery or system itself to blame?
Well, if you look around the forum, you'll notice a lot of topics covering x60 and x60s with bad batteries. Apparently, there was a recall back in August 2009, and most of the batteries had some sort of an error (Sony cells to be precise). My 8-cell battery went bad about a month ago, almost at the ...

Re: Debating a T60 (WARNING! Pictures Inside)
I agree with pianowizzard - it's just plain sad running SXGA+ display at XGA resolution. Other than that, I would change the base plastic cover and palmrest (they're really ugly). As far as I'm concerned, you've couldn't go better than that - as IPS displays are no longer offered, I find T60/p and T...

Re: High pitched sound...
Well, some people claim that the noise goes away if you turn off the power management for the processor, since C2D only produces high pitched noise in one of its power states, but I'm not sure... Perhaps someone else can give you a better answer. Try setting the processor speed to highest in the Pow...

Re: X61s fan failing. Should I replace it myself?
Well, the fan went bad after two months because you've used oil. Oil is liquid and leaks out so it's not the best solution. The same applies for all liquid - WD40 makes an instant effect which lasts for about a day or two and then you can hear the ol' roar from the fan again. I've used regular greas...

Re: High pitched sound...
Hi, For C2D processor, it's quite normal. Use the search on this forum and you'll find a dozen of topics on this matter. Also, DC/DC circuitry for battery charging/discharging sometimes tends to make high pitched noise - quite normal as well. Pull your AC\DC charger to your ear (when laptop is not c...

Re: Selectable 32- or 64-bit Vista on x61
Unless your 32-bit application is resource hungry, I would suggest VMware or something similar (Microsoft Virtual Machine or whatever it's called) and installing XP or even older Windows. You'd probably take the most complicated route by buying new Vista and a new hdd and installing everything from ...

Re: X61s becomes flaky after waking up from sleep
Yeah... That's not going to do - Configured To Order systems are in fact configured to order, which means they can be any configuration you order. The correct number for viewing configuration on these systems is in fact PRODUCT TYPE, not MACHINE TYPE. My X60s is 1703-CTO, 1703-WUT. The CTO code does...

It's a bit hard to diagnose the fault if we don't know what the system is. Put your laptop in your signature, or give us machine type number.

Re: X61s fan failing. Should I replace it myself?
Hate to bring back old topics, but I just wanted to share my experience with motherboard removal on X60s. I needed to reapply thermal grease (I always use AS5 for this) and clean/lube the fan. I found that removing LCD is by far the worst part - in particular, WLAN antennas are not that hard to unro...

Re: Anyone with X6 Ultrabase key G63
Why on earth would you need a key mate? I'm in the same situation (got second-hand x6 ultrabase without the keys), but I find that keys are quite annoying on my Advanced Mini Dock - it has to be in all the time, unless you want it locked + I don't need them at all. Btw, I have a couple of Adv. Mini ...

ThinkPad X22 CRC 0175
Hi all! I have a chance to to buy ThinkPad X22 2660-PU2 at a very low price, but it has a dead hdd and 0175 BAD CRC error. Now, I've seen this error a million times and it was mostly on T20/T21/T22, some people claim that A2x are much more prone to it. Anyway I'm totally familiar with it on these sy...

Always been a pleasure helping a fellow thinkpadder. Some people on this forum disagree that thinkvantage software could help in anything, but for me, it's only been helpful from the day one. Nice to know some else find it useful too.

Re: auto switch to high res external VGA when docked?
If you ask me, I would tell you to install Presentation Director (you'll easily find it on Lenovo support site from which you've downloaded drivers) and play with profiles and make new profiles for docked/undocked configurations. I'll have a second glance at the schematics tomorrow, I'll let you know if I find some more info on what could be wrong. The problem is that we don't know the layer layout and this could be crucial - if one of the layers is bad, you can just throw the board away...

Hate to bring up old topics, but same story here - x60s, Sony 8-cell battery, even the gauge is the same - 52.42 after reset. I do try to extend the battery by cycling it more, and I always drain it completely - I have about half an hour on 0%. Seems that Sony batteries are weird...

Just one more thing - 5 Ohms is NOT 0 Ohms, therefore it's not shorted. It simply isn't there.

Re: T41 LCD inverter problems
Ok, first, you're sure it's shorted? You've checked with a regular ohm-meter which gives you 0 ohms, and you've checked with a pulsed mode ohm-meter and that one also gives you 0 ohms? And of course, I hope you didn't use an ohm-meter on a live board. If this is true - then you could be facing the f...

Re: T41 LCD inverter problems
What do you mean by "grounded"? VCC3M cannot be grounded, per say - only if a certain component had a massive burnout, then VCC3M could be grounded, in which case, you should be throwing away the board, since anything that actually burns through a resistor, diode, or cap had probably burned everythi...

Re: T41 LCD inverter problems
Both 3.3V and 5V come from MAX1631 ic. It's near the system battery - pretty easy to find. When a voltage is applied to MAX1631 (Vdd), it first uses it's linear 5V regulator to supply logic with 5V voltage. After this voltage exceeds 4.5V or so, MAX1631 automatically bootstraps and switches on the 5...

The big bad thing after all this is that I somehow managed to fry ADP3806, or even something more - I acc...

Re: T41 LCD inverter problems
Ok, Murphy's Law strikes again - it's the gate driving voltage. Should be some 23.4V, as measured on a working T40, in my case it's 0V. Now, I can't seem to back-trace the gate driving line to anything (my guess is that the power management IC for this particular driver is somewhere on the underside...

Hi, I would be interested in one cable+one screen. Belgrade, Serbia. I would be using them in an X60s, and I guess that's not a problem, righ...
