The fan in my trusty X61s has died. I am looking for a replacement. The PN is 42X3804. I believe that fans from X60, X61, and X60s machines will also work.

Does anyone have one they'd like to sell?

I bought one off of eBay but never used it. It's a FRU 42X3805 .. I think that's the same but you should check. Usually, the FRU and P/N are one digit apart. I paid $10 for it .. I can send a copy of the eBay post if you want (need your email address).

X60 and X61 have the same fan.
X60s and X61s have a smaller fan and another power connector.
Make sure you get a X6xs fan.

Very good advice. You can also use an x60 Tablet/ x61 Tablet fan.

42x3805 mentioned above is unfortunately larger and will not fit into an x61s. It is the FRU used for x61 fans.

42x3804 which you posted above is the FRU used for x61s models. See system service parts here: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloa ... D=PD013282 (fan= part #25).

x61 Tablet uses FRU 42x4399 as found in x61 Tablet system service parts here: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/product ... MIGR-67023 (fan= part #22).

42x4399 and 42x3804 are smaller than x60/ x61 fans. They are completely interchangeable and both of those FRU's will work in either x61s or x61 Tablet. x60 Tablet fan FRU 41V9748 will also work. x60s fan FRU's will also work.

So just get an x60s, x61s, x60 Tablet or x61 Tablet fan and you'll be OK. x60 or x61 fans will not work. They are bigger and will not fit into the smaller space allotted for the fan in the x60s / x61s chassis. (That extra little bit of real estate available inside x60/x61 allows a larger fan to fit those models and is where the battery spacer fits x60s / x61s models ).

This is based on a careful examination of the system service parts lists and constantly playing around with a bunch of system boards and fans scattered all throughout my home

x61s fan FRU 42X3804
x61 fan FRU 42X3805

Thanks to Daniel for all the information, and for selling me a new fan. It's got my machine working again! Switching it out with the old one wasn't all that hard. Not as much surgery involved as some of the other posts indicated.
