I'm getting rid of the last of my 4:3 ThinkPads.

Sad, I know.

But it's not sad for you. You, oh lucky forum reader, can get what many consider one of the best ThinkPads ever made: a well-specc'd ThinkPad T61. Best of all? It's got an Intel GPU, so you don't have to worry about the infamous NVIDIA GPU issues that plague most SXGA+ T61s.



Other neat features? It's had the Middleton BIOS mod applied to it, so it takes any WLAN/WWAN card you throw at it (hence why it's got a 6200 in it now) and supports the full SATA II port speed (3Gbit/s). Oh, yeah, despite looking like the T60, the T61 has a plastic lid cover over a magnesium frame (i.e. a roll-cage.) This makes the lid strong. Really strong. Like, you-can-stand-on-it strong. (But you shouldn't...) This is awesome if you travel a lot, and it's saved this particular notebook from harm on at least one occasion.

There is one flaw however: the hinges have a bit of play to them. This is pretty common in T61s, but yeah, it's there. That's not to say that they're loose -- they'll certainly hold the screen open during use just fine -- just that there is about 1/2" of travel before the hinge itself moves. This is probable due to fatigue of the in-lid hinge bindings, but since it never really bothered me that much I didn't ever replace the hinges.

Asking $225. Price is variable depending on what extras you want (although I'd really prefer to sell with the dock and adapter as I don't need either for anything else...) Upgrades are also available, so PM if you have something in mind.

What is the machine type & model & does it have a COA on the bottom (or in the battery compartment?

Most likely it's 8897-03U, same as your wife's.
But it's also souped-up a bit with a more powerful CPU and other goodies like a 6200N etc.

That's what happens when you *underprice* a machine and go away...

It's now spoken for.
