Well, it doesn't look good for the 'retro' Thinkpad. On the other hand, a complete new design could take about a year, so it is possible that the retro thinkpad could be released in the summer or fall of 2016. For some reason, I do not think this is the case. Maybe they will incorporate some design elements from feedback into the next machines?
Current Thinkpads: W530 (functional classic keyboard mod), X301, T61, T60, T43, A31p, T23, 600X, 770

I don't believe it at all. Lenovo returned single $0.01 LED disk activity indicator into a $4000 workstation model only. Wireless LED indicator would probably cost another extra $4000. Don't mention 7-row keyboard with proper layout, each key for at least extra $500 :D It is hopeless.

Still not on the US website though.
Dell's equivalent Precision 7510 and 7710 are available. The 4k displays are surprisingly inexpensive options. Xeon and high-end GPUs are expensive as usual. Also Precision 5510 "ultrabook" version.

interesting bits:

+OLED panel! (X1 yoga)
+3:2 ! (X1 tablet)

+ full size HDMI, better than the mini HDMI which is basically usleess. if you need an adaptor, just use the mini DP instead.

sad we cant have both in notebook factor, i would have bought it straight away.

-no more VGA (biggest problem for me)
-sometimes micro SD instead of full size SD
-more soldered non replacable stuff (T460s soldered battery).
It is not that i need more battery, it is that i want to be able to replace it in few years.

T460s battery is not soldered. Its integrated into the chassis, but after taking off the bottom cover, you can replace it, you only have to remove a few screws to do so.

how easy will it be to source parts for the battery? For external battery, it was very easy to find many different parts. For internal, I am a bit more afraid...

another question, what about X1 Carbon? soldered battery or replacable?

I dont get it though; If they can get OLED panel, they can made them cut in any shape they want, so why no 16:10 for the retro TP?

Internal batteries are like any other internal part - normally, you can buý them on ebay from resellers.

An example: My father has a ThinkPad Twist (S230U, 2012 model) as his main machine. Bought in early 2013, and about 3 months ago, the battery was dead. ThinkPad Twist is far away from being a mainstream mass seller like a T-Series model, but you still can find the batteries on ebay (for reasonable prices too): http://www.ebay.com/itm/Genuine-Battery ... xySoJTRnFp So we just purchased a new battery and replaced the old dead one.

If the past X1 Carbon is any indication, the battery will be replaceable as well.

16:10, I don´t know what the issue is. We will see. I do think it will be possible to get such a panel.

The issue is cutting costs, as usually. We can make spacecraft reaching Pluto but on the other hand we are stuck with a display size :) Are there still A5 sheets of paper available or just A4 left only ?

I don't get why the ThinkPad 13 is not actually based on the 12" 3:2 display used in X1 Tablet. They could have finally designed a 3:2 aspect ratio regular laptop without excuses.

thinkpad 13 is cheap.

for sure, the cheapest display are 16:9.

I would have loved a 3:2 tp 13, but i dont think they should have made it.

I really think they should make the retro TP with the best components:
OLED
3:2
7row keyboard
1 usb C port
etc.

it is true that configured correctly (2dimm + i5 processor + full HD ips) the thinkpad 13 has not much to be shy about.

it is still the [censored] 16:9 but all the laptops are plaggued by it.
you have no vga but no thinkpad has it but the much bulkier L.
It is quite light

it s cheaper than the rest, and you have everything the rest have + usb C.

Could be a stop gap buy waiting for the retro thinkpad. I just wish i had more news about the retro project.

T450s seems a better deal though (it just lacks the usb C, but has a vga port).
seems you can get T450s for quite cheap now

And they got rid of removable batteries on the T460s. Glad I got my T450s.

I wish they'd offer the 3:2 screen on the T460s, non-touch, and the half pound of weight savings is impressive.

X1 tablet is interesting, but combining the camera, projector, and other features into a single attachable module would be better.

It would be THE most interesting tablet on the market, if it were not because of the keyboard attachment. You cannot use it as a laptop, and thats basically one of the biggest designflaws i have seen on the current lineup.

To use it with a keyboard, you need the "fold out stand", You cannot use it as a "laptop", since you cannot use it on your lap (or any other small surface)

Not sure how that would be better? If I don't need the camera, or projector, why would I want to bring everything along, and why would I want to pay for everything, instead of just picking and choosing?

I hadn't noticed that. Interesting point. Not sure I agree that it is "one of the biggest design flaws" as it brings with it other things that may be an improvement? For example, does that mean I now can have an integrated X1Tablet keyboard that is also a detachable keyboard? That would be cool for me: currently, I sometimes bring my own stand and keyboard with me when I go to a cafe to work with one of my laptops because extended work at a hunched over screen is not ergonomic.

I honestly almost never use a laptop on my lap.

ThinkPad 13 in PSREF http://psref.lenovo.com/Product/ThinkPad_13 All US configurations (except first two) have 3-year warranty while WE 1-year (2 years in EU for non-company customers) only.

http://psref.lenovo.com/Detail/ThinkPad_13?M=20GJ0008US i5-6200U, FHD, 512 GB SDD, 16 GB RAM, Windows 10 Pro for 1300 USD does not sound bad. Unfortunately EU pricing will be insane as usually :(

I've seen Thinkpad13 in preorder @ some Slovakian webstore few weeks ago. As far as I remember its prices were higher than equal L460 config >.< http://www.lenovoshop.sk/ThinkPad-pre-s ... _374_2.htm. For such a price you can get an T460 in USofA... How anyone can call it Thinkpad for students. It is dedicated to Saudi Arabia students i guess

The Thinkpad 13 (especially in silver) reminds me too much of the generic looking entry level HP and Dell consumer laptops.
