15,000 pre-orders might bring acceptable displays back

#1 Post by Puppy » Wed Apr 15, 2009 5:31 pm

Display Ratio Change (again) http://blog.lenovo.com/perspectives/dis ... ange-again (EDIT broken link fixed)

"For readers of this blog, yes, I had our team run the math. In order to provide a high end IPS display option, we'd need well over 15,000 confirmed orders to make it even worth considering. This is due to minimum order quantities, creating models, stocking replacement parts for years to come, etc. If someone enterprising wants to create a database of (legitimate) credit card numbers of confirmed, non-cancellable orders, I'm sure that it would get some attention around here. (For you legal types, this does not constitute an offer to sell.)"

Can we ? Only 14999 lefts :-)

Offer them on the W, X, T, & R, and count me in for four.

Heck, I would pay up front for the joy of having 4:3 IPS return!

I'll have two - 14987!

I read Matt's piece as well, and I couldn't believe what I read. The comments below the piece are pretty clear. Customers who use their machines for WORK are fed up with these nonsensical excuses.

What is 15K units? Let's break it down, shall we. Lenovo produced 5.9 million notebooks and desktops in Q3 2008. How many of those were notebooks? Let's call it 3 million. That's about 12 million notebooks in the whole of 2008. And they can't offload 15K machines with top notch screens? Unless these production numbers are way off the mark this is ridiculous.

I'd be interested if it's a 4:3 screen. Not widescreen, especially not 16:9.

Hi,

I realize I'm jumping in rather late to this thread, but:

As a first step to gathering the biggest group to push for a premium screen in an existing ThinkPad, I plan to run an online survey to determine which ThinkPad this would be the most popular option for. And what screen resolution the most people want. A draft survey is in the Lenovo forums. If you're interested, please have a look and post your comments/corrections to the survey question.

After a week or so (?) for discussion of the question, I'll start the survey and will post the link here if nobody objects.

Thanks!
-Frank
