Video Chipset Performance Benchmarks - Post Your Numbers!
I started using the Freestone Group Video Card Stability Test to check T4x machines for GPU issues and then T6x machines for GPU temps. It works great for both. Recently, I tested a T61 with Intel graphics and a T60p. The benchmark results were interesting.
Below is the link for the utility and test numbers with CPU and GPU info.
http://freestone-group.com/video-card-s ... y-test.htm
T60p 15.4" w/ATI V5250 video and T7200 C2D CPU - Score 77
T61 15.4" w/Intel integrated video and T8100 C2D CPU - Score 33
T61 14.1" WSXGA+ w/NVidia Quadro NVS 140M - Score 64
X100e 11.6" HD w/ATI HD 3200 and AMD Athlon Neo L335 Dual Core - Score 5 (w/Win7 32-bit)
T400s 14.1" WXGA+ w/Intel 4500MHD and Core 2 Duo SP9400 - Score 53
Edge 15 15.6" HD w/ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250 and AMD Phenom II P960 Quad-Core - Score 39
T420 14.1" HD w/Intel HD 3000 and Core i5-2520M - Score 76
During normal use with office apps., YouTube, Internet, etc., the T61 feels just as snappy as the T60p, however, clearly the discrete graphics from a prior generation machine is superior for graphics intensive tasks.
I'll test a few more machhines. Post your test results, too.
Note: Your GPU temps will spike! I've seen T60's with fans that had missing or worn thermal pads shut down. T4x machines with bad GPU's will lock up, too.

Now that was wild...I've never seen the GPU on my T43p shoot up to 96 degrees C (according to TPFC) but then again I'm not a gamer...
With stock driver (included in recovery disk set) I got the score of 47 on the V3200 (PM 780, 2GB RAM)...not bad for such an old battleaxe...
Now let's see where I get with the modded drivers...
Modded (Powerplay) drivers got me 46 in the very same setup on the very same machine...hmmm...
Now here's a somewhat surprising score...T42 with Radeon 7500, PM 725 and 2GB RAM...9 with the stock driver...wow...at least it survived without melting the GPU...

Re: Video Chipset Performance Benchmarks - Post Your Numbers!
George, that is funny. But it's true! That's why I use this utility for testing T4x and other machines, if this doesn't lock up a machine, nothing will. It's great for testing whether or not you have the fan properly seated (on both the CPU and the GPU) on T60p machines. (I always keep an eye on the temps, too.)ajkula66 wrote:Now that was wild...I've never seen the GPU on my T43p shoot up to 96 degrees C (according to TPFC) but then again I'm not a gamer...

You're not kidding. The only thing which has likely saved my T43p from overheating and shutting off was a brand new (as in NOS, out-of-the-box-unused) fan and a fresh coat of AS. You can probably fry eggs on any V3200/V5200/V5250 while this thing is running at full force...if this doesn't lock up a machine, nothing will.

My tower machine with the following specs scored 184.
Intel C2D E7500
4GB DDR2 800MHz RAM
3x320GB HD's RAID 0
ATI X850-XT Platinum Edition 256MB GDDR3 RAM @ 560Mhz. Core runs at 520MHz
Windows 7 Ultimate MSDN License
IBM Thinkpad X41 Tablet
The X41T has a 1.5GHz Pentium M CPU, 1.5GB of RAM and the Intel 915 video.
Score: 11
The machine went to 100% CPU as opposed to 4% CPU on my tower machine, but that is to be expected since the graphics are integrated. What is interesting to note, is that while the fan did kick on, it was barely audible and the bottom of the machine was slightly warm.
Great laptop.

It seems I haven´t been around for a while, otherwise I would have spot that thread much earlier
Windows 7, aero disabled, video driver from windows update, ATI Mobility FireGL V5200 --> score 78
According to TPFC, the observed max temperature was 93°C, but stabilized at 92°C after TPFC kicked in
BTW, is that benchmark solely gpu or also cpu?
A very good stability test is FurMark + wPrime (max possible threads) running at the same time (heaviest possible load, I guess). If the machine can run that without shutting down or melting, it can run everything

How about a 2-D test? What matters more to me is performance in "flat" applications. I used BitBlt when I needed to compare Matrox cards to integrated graphics at high resolutions.
BitBlt by michael herf (http://www.stereopsis.com/blttest/)
Savage IX on T21 (600 MHz) (XP)
BitBlt: avg: 113.6 fps [133.1 MB/sec]
ReverseBlt: avg: 5.1 fps [6.0 MB/sec]
Radeon on X22 (800 MHz) (XP)
BitBlt: avg: 186.9 fps [219.1 MB/sec]
ReverseBlt: avg: 5.0 fps [5.8 MB/sec]
Intel 855 on Motion M1400 (1100 MHz) (Vista "stark")
BitBlt: avg: 1129.1 fps [1323.1 MB/sec]
ReverseBlt: avg: 76.3 fps [89.4 MB/sec]
Intel 915 GMA 900 on X41 Tablet (1500 MHz) (XP)
BitBlt: avg: 1543.9 fps [1809.3 MB/sec]
ReverseBlt: avg: 69.1 fps [81.0 MB/sec]
Intel 945 GMA 950 on Motion C5 (1200 MHz) (Vista "stark") (2011-02-01)
BitBlt: avg: 1085.5 fps [1272.0 MB/sec]
ReverseBlt: avg: 1075.0 fps [1259.8 MB/sec]
Intel 945 GMA 950 on Motion C5 (1200 MHz) (Vista Aero) (2011-02-01)
BitBlt: avg: 909.8 fps [1066.1 MB/sec]
ReverseBlt: avg: 925.2 fps [1084.2 MB/sec]
All of these numbers are average of a few runs. BltTest is an old test, and finishes in a tiny fraction of a second on modern hardware, so its results are not steady. It surprises me that the Intel 855 and 915 integrated graphics both have higher "forward" speeds than the 945. Also surprising is that the 945's GMA 950 seems to have higher reverse speed than forward! I doubt I can trust this test with hardware made since 2004 or so.

I got a whopping 25 on my Dell Inspiron 1545, with a Mobil Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset.
Gonna try my X200s, and Inspiron 1505. My HP has graphics card issues similar to that of the T4x series, so I am NOT gonna try it on that one.

T60 w/ X1400 - 56. Looks about on par with the T61/T400, not bad!
CPU went as high as 65, GPU as high as 82 during the 3 minutes of the test. That's with the laptop docked, the lid closed, and the newer version of the T60 fan, which is supposed to be worse at cooling the GPU in return for better cooling for the CPU. If 82 is the highest, I am not worried.
The 3D renderer of ATI tray tools got by CPU and GPU to 69/86 respectively under similar conditions, before seemingly stabilizing.
