Dock/Port replicator question

#1 Post by kylera » Wed Oct 24, 2007 4:45 pm

If I want to get a port replicator for a ThinkPad T series for a moderate price, which should I opt for? I don't need the extra UltraBay.

Which T-series thinkpad you have? What will be your main usage?

I'm opting for a T61 and I intend on taking it with me to class on a regular basis. It would be the typical home setup -- display, peripherals and everything else hooked up to the dock.

You can buy either the "Thinkpad Advanced mini dock" or the "Thinkpad Essential Port replicator" for the T6x series. More info on below links:

The advanced mini dock is a bit more expensive than the port replicator, but offers better value for money IMHO.

I'd invest the $$$ in the advanced mini dock. It has DVI and audio ports, which is very convenient if you have a speaker setup and an LCD monitor.

Gator, the wiki you referenced for the Advanced Mini-Dock doesn't mention an S/PDIF (digital audio) port, but the Lenovo site description does...

Does the Advanced Mini-Dock have an S/PDIF port, and if so, where is it located? I can't find any photos online showing this particular port.

TIA.

To answer my own question, the S/PDIF (digital audio) coax port is on the right hand side of the Advanced Mini Dock. The T60p hangs over that side by a full 2 inches, so it is easy to overlook that particular port because it is completely hidden beneath the docked computer instead of sticking out of the back like all the other ports.
