As far as RAM goes, the type means nothing. All the types use the same RAM. The different type models feature different GPUs, screens, HDDs, etc. Just various configurations, some of which shipped with a variety of RAM values, but all are DDR2 modules.

Here are some of the differences in the T43 "types"

The T43/R52 needs PC2-4200 or PC2-5300 SDRAM (a.k.a. DDR2-533 or DDR2-667), 200-pin SODIMMs, non-ECC.
Both types will work equally well, albeit that the 5300 modules will clock down to 4200 speed.
The T43/R52 takes a maximum of 2GB RAM (2 x 1GB modules).
