T43 AC Power Inlet Plug Defective

#1 Post by Borek » Fri Dec 27, 2013 7:24 pm

Hi All,
Just acquired a T43 and have a problem with the female power plug in the back. When AC adapter is plugged in, T43 does not power up. The female plug is loose and may have a broken wire inside.
I need to know how to open the T43 up so I can see why the plug is loose. The computer runs fine on a battery which I charge with my T41.
Any advise as to how to get to the plug is appreciated.

Complete instructions on disassembly can be found here. Look under the heading of hardware maintenance manual and download it.

Leave yourself some time to get to the power jack.

if your powering port is actually damaged (it can happen) and you need a new one, I have an extra I can sell you for cheap (like $5). Otherwise if you are lucky it just may be the screw that holds that in place is loose. If that is the case, you will have to remove the motherboard from the bottom panel to get at the screw.

Good luck!

I have read the manual about getting to the motherboard to look at the plug but need to study the procedure a little more before I feel confident to tackle it and see what the problem is. So far the snow has kept me so busy I can't find the time to do it. If the plug is damaged I certainly would be interested in purchasing yours. Thanks so much for your help. I'll post what I find to be the problem.

this video may help, or completely scare you off too :P

Around the 7:47 mark is where they get to the yellow power port/plug and how you check to see if the screw holding that in place in loose or not. For your purposes you will not need to remove all of the items they are removing. RAM for instance can stay in, and possibly the fan as well

Thanks for the youtube reference. I checked it out. Awesme! I will tackle the job but not for some time since other matters need attention first. Video definitely will be helpful.

Hi Easy Wind,
It's been awhile since my last post because of family health issures. I diffinitely would like to purchase the spare AC Power Inlet Plug if you still have it. If so, let me know your address to send the check or I can do PayPal. Sorry for the late response but things don't always work out the way we would like.
Regards,
Borek

Hi Everybody,
It's been awhile since I first mentioned this problem but this week I finally tackled it and it was a challenge. The manual and the part from Ebay helped. Thanks to all for advise and suggestions. T43 works great. The old one had two wires broken on it. Pretty much had to take most of the laptop apart, down to the motherboard. Happy I did it and learned a lot.
