Which is the best burner for T42?

#1 Post by Nicola » Fri Jul 25, 2014 11:27 am

I don't speak english. I use the automatic translator.
I have read several threads in this forum before opening this.

What is the fastest dvd-drive for T42?
I find only cd-rw 16x/dvd-ram 5x or cd-rw 24x/dvd-ram 3x.
I want the fastest burner around!
I ask you to write makes (Panasonic, Hitachi, etc.) and models, not code, for example 42R7966.

A gift for you (but this is 12.7 mm high)

This model is compatible with which portable? (is PATA).
A writer is not independent from the operating system? Why is not Windows 98?
There IDE recorders 9mm so fast?

I think what you saw is the fastest.

I would get an external USB burner. I would not spend a lot of money on a machine this old.

When it comes to burning CD/DVD, speed is not always best. I much prefer quality over speed of the burn.

I've used a DVD burner from a T61p in my T42 before, so that would work.

Hint: See the following threads: Swapping T60 Multiburner w/ T42 DVD/CDRW or DVD burner upgrade or FS: Ultrabay Slim DVD-RW burners (R5x/T4x/T6x/X4x/X6x/Z6x) or WTB: "Ultrabay Slim Multi-Burner III" (DVD-RW) for a T60

I believe that the fastest internat CD/DVD-RW drive which will fit in the internal T42-bay is the Ultrabay Slim Multi-Burner III Drive

Whether an external USB-burner might be faster; that I have never checked - search for yourself, but recall that T42's are limited to USB 2.0 speed.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lenovo_UltraBay
UltraBay Type: UltraBay Slim
Featured in: T4x
Available devices: CD/DVD, CD-RW/DVD, Multiburner, PATA HD, SATA HD, Battery

UltraBay Type: UltraBay Enhanced
Featured in: R5x
Available devices: CD/DVD, CD-RW/DVD, Multiburner, and all UltraBay Slim devices

All UltraBay Slim is compatible with R5x but UltraBay Enhanced is not compatible with T4x?

P.S.: for Z6x and R6x the name is Enhanced Ultrabay (NO UltraBay Enhanced). STUPID NAME!

Correct.

I suggest not trusting Wikipedia with Thinkpad stuff. It is not written by people who are true experts in Thinkpads.

Thinkwiki is a better and more accurate source in most cases.

Any optical drive is operating system independent? Just put it in the laptop and they work properly?
I use W98SE.

I buy matshita (Panasonic) UJ-862 because (AUTOMATICO TRANSLATOR):
For cd-rw 16 x is used throughout the length of the disc, the no 24 then changes little.
For dvd-ram 3 x and 5 x speed are exploited across the disk, so there is no difference.
