IBM Part Numbers for 80GB 7200RPM and 100GB 7200RPM

Since the 2010 error has rendered my Hitachi Travelstar 80GB 7200 less than convenient I am looking to switch to the item drives. However IBM only lists 5400 drives on their site as "upgrades". Does anyone have the part numbers for the 7200RPM drives so I can try and find some?

I don't think they are shipping as upgrades yet. Looks like just for new orders. I looked a week ago and didn't see any either.

I'd expect we'll see them soon.

That's just wrong. That is incredibly wrong to do that. System's Mobo is fixed so you can only use IBM parts... and IBM abuses the pricing. I can see $10-$20 markup... but $420 isn't justifiable unless it's made out of 24k gold.

it's not wrong, IBM provide you service, if this drive went bad for some reason you get a new HDD next day. while with OEM you mail it to hitachi (you pay shipping) then Hitachi checks it for 2 - 3 days and then mai lit to you in another 2 -3 days. it take around 10 -15 days.

so it's all about post sale support.

Well... I don't know if the price difference of $160 is resonable. I could simple purchase another 100GB 5400 rpm for the difference and make a image back up with it.

If the 7200 rpm one breaks down, I just plug the second HD until the primary HD gets replace under Hitachi warranty.

Time lost 0 days, data lost minimal.

I think the chances of both HD's failing at the same time is extremely low. Considering that one is being used only as a back up.
