new battery not detected

Just got a supposedly new battery from Ebay, and it's not detected by the system. Is there anything special to get the new battery to start charging, or do I have a dead battery?

the old battery holds a charge for about 1 hour

Your EBay battery is no good. I'd return it.

Found an unopened battery locally, it's charging now.
