Sorting through inconsistant info about T4x LCD panels

#1 Post by ccjin » Sat Jun 06, 2009 10:20 pm

I need to replace a broken LCD panel on a T40p (2373-G1C, 14.1" SXGA+). I took it apart and confirmed it is FRU 11P3846 (IDTech IASX16S). While reading through this forum looking for a compatible LCD, I came across seemingly inconsistent info and would appreciate some help sorting it out.

My understanding is that 11P8346 is made by IDTech (IASX16S) and 11P8348 is made by Samsung (LTN141P4-L02) and they are compatible. Is this correct?

In this forum alexr reported that he bought a 11P8346 that came as IDTeck IASX16C
http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.ph ... it=11p8348

Also chchandler reported that he purchased a 11P8346 to replace his 11P8348 but didn't work. http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.ph ... it=11p8348

Seems confusing. Were they just shipped the wrong parts?

I also see some 14.1 inch SXGA+ LCD panel for T43 and T60 listed on Ebay. Are those compatible to 11P8346?

Thanks in advance.

Charles

Welcome to the forum!

Any LCD from a 14" SXGA+ T4x unit will work. LCD from a T6x/R6x will NOT work.

Stay away from Samsung panels if possible, they're garbage IMHO. Likely the best 14" SXGA+ LCD out of these is 13N7046 made by Hydis for T43/p models.

Hope this helps.

Please, explain why T6x's LCD will not work in T4x ?
AFAIK, T4x's LCD will not work in T6x due to the lack of the EDID chip (or EDID information). But T6x's LCD will work in T4x (at least for 15" Flexview panels).

And yes, I have Samsung SXGA+ panel on my T41. It has a VERY LOW constrast, what is very bad for my eyes.
Don't know about ID Tech or Hydis 14" SXGA+ panels.

Have you performed this operation yourself, or can point to anyone who has? I'll be glad to retract my statement....
