bluetooth antenna install???

#1 Post by iNFiNiTY125 » Tue Feb 09, 2010 10:09 pm

Hi, I got a Think-Pad T40\T42 2373 and it doesn't have the bluetooth antenna.

Can I put a antenna in my Think-Pad?

Has anyone done this?

Is this what i need? (I know about the daughter board and everything)

Welcome to the forum!

Before we go any further...

What's the 7-character model number of your T4x, 237?-???

Have you opened it up to check whether the antenna was already in place, you'd find it wrapped under the modem card...

In that case, take a peak at HMM and decide whether you're up for it...

Shouldn't be a problem if done neatly...

Just finished doing an antenna install in my T43 today. More tedious than difficult.
Hard part (IMHO) is pulling the frame away from the LCD. It's attached with adhesive so you need to be careful not to hurt you LCD.
Other than that just be careful and as ajkula66 says be neat.

Also if you are "good" you only need to take the screws out of the bottom and the LH side (of the LCD bezel) and just lift the lower LH corner to get to the antenna monting point. You do need to remove the LCD from the base...

FYI it does work w/o an antenna, but not much beyond 6".

I did this a few months ago. Here's my experience:

-First, no comments about what exact model you need.
-I was hoping to get away without the antenna. no dice. Absolute needed.
-Kicks butt once you get the software working.
-Software is harder than the hardware.

But really, you were asking about the antenna. So, I have the Thinkpad Maintenance Manual which is available online as a free download if you search hard enough for it. It goes through the entire process by which to remove the screen and disassemble the case. This made my job REALLY EASY, from tracking screws to only removing what was needed to get the job done.

It did not take very long to perform. Computer came right back after completion and worked immediately.

good luck. You won't need it. (luck)
