Hello all, I'm new to the forum and,I recently bought a T43 (2668-F5G) and would also like to obtain a set of factory restore cd's. The hard drive has failed and I don't have a recovery disc.I have been googling around without any success.

Re: need T43 Recovery cd-please !
You can make a bootable USB stick, that can substitute for a recovery CD. At this point, I am not sure the recovery CDs are any use - I don't think they have Windows XP SP3 on them, it's probably an earlier version. So you will waste hours after installation, updating to SP3. Then you will end up downloading everything from thinkpads.com anyway, so you might as well reinstall the OS from a fresh Windows XP SP3 disk. You can buy a disk (I use a Blue Dell backup media disk) - without a license - for a few bucks - maybe $9-$15 on EBay.

Re: need T43 Recovery cd-please !
Does anybody still have the restore discs for type 2669 (with ATI) for Windows XP Pro SP2? Any chance of an uploaded version or anything very cheap? I refuse to pay Lenovo 45.99 for recovery discs for such an old laptop with the OS no longer even supported but it would still be very convenient for me to have a set.
Re: need T43 Recovery cd-please !
Hermit, Windows XP is dead. I have tested myself, a computer with Windows XP connected to the internet doesn't last very long, why not just make a Linux flash drive? It's free, and you can run Windows programs through an emulator.

Re: need T43 Recovery cd-please !
First of all, Windows-XP SP3 is not dead, we use XP-SP3 on a daily basis behind an access point and have never had a verified attack on our machine.
I want you to think very long and hard about why you are seeking a recovery CD.
- This is a CD for a version of Windows from 2002-2006 time period with lots of security holes.
- The operating system (Windows-XP SP1, SP2) will be woefully out of date
- All of the drivers will either be buggy or will lack upgrades provided later
- Thinkpads are such mainstream devices that there were almost no devices that didn't work with Windows-XP (generic, from Microsoft) straight from the box.
I have re-imaged four T42/T42p laptops and one T60p laptop (all 14.1" 1400x1050). I used a DELL windows-XP SP3 disk, which I bought from EBay for $10. The Windows XP validation sticker (and a good magnifying glass) are all that you need to do this. After installing Windows-XP SP3, you generally have a fully functioning laptop that can be used just like any windows machines. Starting in ~2012, Lenovo has a fantastic "driver update" application available on their website. After installing generic Windows-XP-SP3, you just download the Lenovo driver update application and start it. Half an hour later it asks you to confirm all the installs (including many updated drivers, 2008-2011). Half an hour later, you have a freshly installed circa 2011 Thinkpad T4x or T6x laptop with ALL of the proprietary Lenovo utilities. It tells you what drivers you installed so you can make copies and put them onto a USB stick for future re-installation(s).
The Rescue & Recovery CD is highly inferior to this new process.
So you really don't need the Thinkpad rescue & recovery disks, and you will actually waste a great deal of time if you DO get them, because after installing the OS, you will have to go find an upgrade to SP3, and you will STILL want to run the driver update program, so your 2-step process becomes a 3-step installation process.
The only reason to ask for a Rescue & Recovery CD is if you want "a trip down memory lane", e.g. a thinkpad with an image circa ~2004, just for old-times' sake.
Food for thought!

sorry, a cursory look at my archives turned up a lot of T40, T41 & T42 series recovery CD sets (and a lot of more ancient recovery sets) but no T43 series..

Re: need T43 Recovery cd-please !
Having a 2668-CTO T43 but original OS has been replaced by Linux and I would like to use Win XP Pro again. Any chance for a recovery disk set in English (or in Hungarian but English is preferred) language? Thanks in advance.

Re: need T43 Recovery cd-please !
The T43/T43p systems came with two different graphics chips: ATI or Intel. The 26xx systems are those that have the ATI chip on the motherboard and as such, require the recovery set which was designed for those systems. T43/T43p model types 18xx used the Intel chip.

I did. Ray helped and now I have a working XP on my T43. Thanks to both of you.BillMorrow wrote:if ray can assist he's way smarter than i ever was, so take his advice..
Now I try to upgrade my system to the latest XP patches. As XP support is over I am not sure that is possible or not. But this is my karma. Founding some package with all patches/hotfixes since SP3 on majorgeeks. Will give it a try. If anything goes wrong I have a recovery set now to start again.
