Saucey's garage set up and CF Vinyl wraps. ~1500x1125 8 pics
So I was recording some ThinkPad repairing videos for YouTube but I haven't had a proper set up.
Anyways I moved my work area to the garage for the time being.
I have an X61T w/ an Ultrabase set on a swiveling PC monitor from the 90's.
It has a metal bracket to slide out for keyboard, I have it clamped on a tool drawer and secured by the one above it.
I also seen someone post a photo of a fake carbon fiber wrapped ThinkPad.
I know there are some units that came like that to the factory, so I tried my best.
I got the wrap from eBay, started off with a cheap roll, works well though.
I hope if I get a pricier one it would have a clear film finish that you see often in lightweight sports cars.
Here is an X61S. It does get a bit hot in the palmrest, even with a cooler WiFi card.
Wrapped the battery as well, kinda tough around the edges where they are spherical.
I don't have a detai of the CPU fan but I'll try to upload one sometime this weekend.
Here is my 14" T60p. I don't have a good detail of it currently, but I did wrap the touchpad after reading about switching a touchpad of a newer ThinkPad that had the odd texture to it. I don't use the touchpad much but it seems fairly accurate.
Not even my W00DS is safe.... Feels a bid odd when drawing because of the texture of the vinyl.
I did it to try it, works perfectly.
Edited three four because I'm bad at this...

Rockin' the X61 Tablet there! Those CF wraps don't look half bad though. I do think you're a bit looney for doing it to the W700ds' digitizer.
Nice workplace setup too. I'd take pictures of mine and show you guys... but, eh... it's kind of a absolute mess, gross pigsty, unsafe cubbyhole, fire hazard, radiation booth, well never mind. But anyways, power to ya man. And absolutely love the collection.

Trying my hardest to collect Thinkpads, but college and being broke kinda gets in the way. However...

Looks great m8 , i was trying to wrap my T61 in red cf wrap, had nightmare around edges and around touch pad and plastic trim around keyboard, and when i removed think pad sticker , never glued back, could not stick i have real cf at home, but small amount, so i think im going to try to make mold and swap it with few plastics or maybe make new lid just dont know about the base, coz cf keeps the heat so im worrying a bit ...

I didn't think that the wrap would help insulate the heat.EvoT61 wrote:just dont know about the base, coz cf keeps the heat so im worrying a bit ...
My X61S did get kinda hot where the vent was on the palmrest's right side, cut it with an Xacto knife, looks kinda flush.
A carbon fiber lid would be sweet!
I think I'll get a different colored CF wrap so I could accent the regular wrap.

@Saucey. That LCD screen on your X61tablet appears to be a nice and bright one! The brightness appears to be uniform as well. Is that an SXGA+ LCD by any chance?

Yes it is.emeraldgirl08 wrote:Is that an SXGA+ LCD by any chance?
So far I am somewhat lucky with the screen bubbles, they are mostly on the bottom and are halfway from creeping past the taskbar on Windows.
I think the XGA screen is slightly brighter/ easier to see than the SXGA+, yet it misses the clarity which is the deal breaker for me.
It is fine when I am indoors, but not great while outdoors or heavy glare, but I am pampered by the W700's brightness.

i dont know about wrap but real cf keeps the heat , so as a base it could create problems , but with lid should b ok but the problem with making cf parts for laptop are small clips ect ect so this should b a good challenge to make it rightSaucey wrote:I didn't think that the wrap would help insulate the heat.EvoT61 wrote:just dont know about the base, coz cf keeps the heat so im worrying a bit ...
