Possible Thinkcentre M57p 9088A35 purchase

#1 Post by sbjoe » Thu Aug 11, 2011 3:08 pm

Thinking of getting one of these from IBM Certified Used to replace my old mom's dying machine. First of all, any comments pro or con? Second, anybody have a clue as to how likely it is to arrive with the chassis, cage & bracket for a second hdd? I called them and the girl who answered hadn't a clue. That doesn't appear to be something that would be easy to source. Finally, I'm clueless as to SATA cabling; am I likely to have to acquire another set of cables for power &/or signal for that second drive?

I just got the same system  It is fast, quiet, quiet... It comes with the second drive bay, but it is in the bottom of the system, so most aftermarket psus don't work. the power supply has an extra sata power cable (it is tied to the bottom cd drive bay). All you need is a (very short) sata cable - the drive fits in beside the ports.

Ultimately a very worthwhile purchase, and it comes with a vista license, and xp installed so you can go to vista x64 or just x86 and take advantage of IE9 gpu acceleration either way.

Again, Thx. Concerning the sata cable, I'm thinking 10"..? Straight or angled connectors or one of each? I'm flying blind until the system arrives and would like to order the drive and a cable meanwhile.

Yet again, Many Thx! System arrived yesterday and is precisely as you described. Overall impression is more than favorable. I've uncovered one nagging issue though that I've not been able to resolve. I'll raise that issue under a dedicated topic.
