Weird, it's approx the same today. TPCF, core temp and real temp 3.4 are getting the same results. I just downloaded hw monitor pro and the result is the same.

I admit I haven't compare the temperature results other than yesterday. I just installed Win7 64bit and rmclock and was undervolting so I wanted to check the temperatures.

I'll reboot and double check.

update: It's the temperature readings are the same now. :) I guess something was screwing up the temperatures reading for the other programs before and increasing it by ~10c. The other temperature results are now consistent with TPCF's lower temperature readings. Thanks!

update2: more weirdness. Seems like when the laptop(x61t) comes out of sleep, all the tpcf readings were ~5c lower than other programs. The tpcf reading were consistent with readings that I got when all the programs gave approx the same reading prior to going to sleep/standby. (I haven't testing this multiple times to see if it happens again.) After rebooting, the results were approx the same again (+- 2c).

I can confirm the program is inaccurate between sleep cycles on the X60 on Windows 7. Real Temp and Rmclock are showing accurate temperatures between sleep cycles.

I just noticed this in the logs:

[09/27/2011 4:04:16 PM] Windows uptime since boot 10643 sec., SecWinUptime= 0 sec.

Meaning that the tool is calculating the temperature based on uptime but uptime is factoring in time the system is in sleep with presumable n/a temperature reading during that time.

Windows XP may have worked differently, but the tool is definitely not working correctly in Windows 7.

My Thinkpad T61p-6457 with 4 GB RAM has been working fine in Windows XP SP3 running TPFan Control V0.62.

Last week I installed Windows 8 review preview build 8400 and see using TPFan Control that the CPU sometimes heats up to ~90 and then crashes (the GPU is stable at around 60). I removed any Thinkpad power management, so as not to interfere with TPFan software.

The fan control software works fine on my ThinkPad T30 and loads on start-up.

It seems that this software may not be compatible with Windows 8 - do you have any suggestions how to get it going on start up please?

You may want to contact the software developer and ask them to develop a newer windows version. You could also migrate to Linux where these tools are better maintained.
