Upgrading ThinkPad T20 CPU

#1 Post by ThinkPad560X » Sun Nov 09, 2014 2:38 am

Im looking to max out my ThinkPads CPUs now since all their RAM is maxed now. My ThinkPad T20 has a Intel Pentium III 750MHz and want to upgrade to what I seen as the highest a Intel Pentium III 1.3GHz

I don't know much about what CPU you can substitute on which motherboard, but I'd say your best course of action would be to replace the T20 with a T23. They were available up to a 1.2Ghz PIII from the factory and can handle 1GB of memory.

I looked into this once, and the PIII Coppermine generation CPU, used in the T20, only goes up to 1GHz. Utilizing one of those in a T20 also seems to require a heatsink and a fan from a T22. The faster PIIIs, found in the T23, is the PIII Tualatin generation CPU, which has a faster FSB (133 instead of 100) and a different socket. They go up to 1,2GHz (Or is it 1,3?), but they will be a no-go in the T20.

Ok thanks. I have my T20 max for it RAM 512MB and check to see the T23 is 1GB max and they go to Pentium III M 1.13GHz for the highest for the T20 series.

Highest T20/T21/T22 is 1.0GHz (max 2x256MB RAM, all same platform), highest T23 is 1.2GHz (max 2x512MB RAM, different platform).
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)
