My T23 came factory installed with W2k, but I have removed it and freshly
installed XP home from a retail CD. Managed to install some IBM

utilities software, including buttons FnF4 for Standby and FnF12 for

Hibernation. But when I click the Thinkpad button on the top left corner

of the keyboard (left of the sound volume buttons) nothing happens. The

Thinkpad Config software can only be opened through the Start/Programs route. Can you show me how to activate the dedicated Thinkpad button?

I would like to configure the unused function keys (F5, F6, F8) to be

used for opening certain applications. Do you know of any step-by-step

instructions from the web that might be useful for a newbie?

Also, is there a kind of "Checklist" for installing XP in T23 so as to

get back all those "IBM utitlities/goodies" that came factory installed

with T23?

I would appreciate your assistance. Thanks.

Go here:

for the device drivers. If you click the "Update automatically" you can install the software installer which will do a lot of the installations for you.

I also bought a T23 @1.2G.

Go to the main webpage in this forum, assess "read this page 1st", you would be able to get most of the IBM utilities, eg. worldmap wall paper.

good luck.

Thanks for your replies. I have downloaded all those on the Thinkpad Installer list. Still the Thinkpad Button does not respond. Anyway, not a big loss; can still open it from the Start/Programs method.

See this link:

If you're trying to get the Thinkpad key to bring up the "Access Thinkpad" users manual, you may need to download the file.

If you've already got the manual available on the start menu, you'll need to have the Hotkey utility running to make the thinkpad key functional.

You will need to d/l the accesssupport1.exe and support2.exe and accessthinkpad.exe files from the drivers page. I dont remember if you execute the accessthinkpad.exe first or accesssupport1 and 2.exe first. Once those -three- files are executed and installed, the Thinkpad button should work.

Why don't you install the new ThinkVantage package on the T23, much more comfortable, and then install a subpoint for the Thinkpad access?

Works perfect on my T23, the away manager is a godsend...
