sup everyone, well i got a t30 that i finally got around to replacing the motherboard because of memory slots..hope you guys can help me. anyway so i changed out the motherboard with another tested one. start her up and i get the fan on lights blinking cd running, but a black screen.. so i continue to mess with it by pressing different f keys then finally i get the ibm logo and f1 to enter bios or f 12 to choose temp boot device .. then i also see a error to update the time and date. so i do that then go back in and set boot to start from cd rom , select f10 to save and then it restarts but then it comes back to the ibm logo and wont go any further. then i shut her off and try again then i cant get anything to show on screen but fan is on but black screen.. during this time i remove the ram and start her up and i dont get the 1 3 3 1 beeps.. it just runs the fan with a black screen. so i mess with it more put ram back in , take out cd rom.. try and try again then ill get the 1 33 1 beeps great i try again , go into bios select boot from cd. then restart, it comes back and hangs at the ibm logo.. then try again and then its black screen again. so i take out ram and i dont get the beeps. i have quadruple checked all my connections. i cant seem to get this sucker goin... and this is with the network card removed ( i did see the unauthorized network card error) bluetooth card removed, even the hard drive and cd rom. i have the original recovery cd .. so somthing dont like somthin. can i drop it off at your house, you mess with it.?
the only thing i can think of is this
when i bought this board it came with 2 black square stickers. seller says the have to be place on mb once installed to avoid short circuit.. well i thought i would be able to see where they go by looking at the original board but i only see white tape.. so i emailed the guy asking him to tell me exactly where they are supposed to be applied on the motherboard. waiting to hear back from him. well i can see couple places the board may touch the case from the underside so i put some tape there just in case. but he said the black stickers go on top of the board but i cant see where they might go.. so does anyone know where they are to be placed? oh im tired been working on this thing for two days, i gotta spend some time with my wife, hope to hear from you guys.
thanks Dan

thanks real, ya i have all the same white tape. strange because the little black stickers are exactly the same size as the screw covers on the front 3 screws..hmmm maybe the guy dont know what hes saying..

ok so ive got it all back together for the 5th time and still same thing , i press power it flashes the lights and starts running the fan only, nothing on screen, i have the bluetooth removed, the network card removed and installed the original 2x 256 ram. the battery light comes on when i plug it in..
but still not starting up..

yesterday i even put back in the old motherboard and its doing the same thing..
im stumped..
i think its starting but the lcd is just not coming on and i cant see the options..
but i also can get it to give the 1 3 3 1 beeps

am i supposed to be pressing f4 at boot? im trying all f keys
i have the recovery cd in it and it runs when i power on but still blank screen hmmmmmm

It being a T30, it may well have a RAM slot problem.
Try to boot with just 1 RAM module in it, the one nearest the center of the laptop.
The front slot is usually the one giving problems.

ok didnt work and now im not getting any beeps with ram removed..
seems like the screen is dead, cause it starts and runs the cd , fan comes on. yesterday i was able to get it to give me the beeps when i removed ram..
now im not getting anything at all.. i think its dead, id hate to give up on it.
ill keep trying. darnit.
can i try anything else. ive tried with ac plug battery removed, battery only, drained power and tried again

is it possible the lcd is bad and still have the power on lights working still?

thanks for helping real, your always here to help.

thanks both you guys got me thinking in the right direction . the answer came to me in my sleep,
and this might be a good tip for others changing motherboards or cpu.
i removed the keyboard, removed the fan cleaned off the grease, and resat the cpu and pushed down a little and to the right as i lock it in, then i appllied about half of the grease i had put before, just a little like less than a pea size. and put the fan back on, pressed a little make sure its sitting on the cpu evenly then tighten up,
powered up and to my great suprise it started. loading windows now... awesome.
thanks again you guys.
