My t60 powers on with a blank/black screen with the batter/ac/power on indicator(z) lights on. BUt no activity. This had been happening for a while but the strange part when I press ESC key and power on, 1 out of 5 times, it starts normally. Also no other key works apart from the ESC key. I tried compeltely reformatting the system from the DVDs but still has this problem. Sometimes when I do this using the ESC key, it beeps 1 long and 2 short sometimes, and sometimes there are no beeps. So I tried the folllowing:

1.Removing the cmos battery and then plugging it in
2.If I remove the memory, it beeps, so I assume memory isnt the problem.
3. Every time when its on, I run the lenovo diagnostics/pc doc tests, it passed every one of them Especially system board/motherboard / memory / harddisk and Video adapter. So, I'm still not able to figure out the reason

I dont know if this is due to the BIOS version (currently 2.27) or due to the boot sequence in my startup list in the BIOS. Also, everytime its on, it runs perfectly smooth without any issues, the problem is mainly starting up / when restarting.

Any suggestions would be appreicated.

Remove the main battery, and try to boot on just AC.
You could well have a dead battery.

Did you guys happen to install faster CPUs that you bought on eBay? I had a C2D T7600 poop out on me because it was some Chinese re-pinned one that wasn't up to OEM quality. The symptoms were the same as you are describing.

If an external monitor works, but not the internal LCD, then you have corrupt VRAM.
GPUs have two outputs, digital for internal LCD, and analog for external monitor.
One can work while the other does not.
Only remedy: replace the motherboard.

What is WRAM...?

What about connections from motherboard to screen or the screen it self.
Could these 2 things be defunc?

It's VRAM, which stands for VideoRAM.
Of course you could try another LCD cable, although these rarely fail.
And you could try another LCD.
But with almost 99% certainty you will find that the GPU is at fault.
Your money, your call.

Lucky me... my company have all the spareparts (free), so I just need to decide where to start :-)

Thanks a lot for help.

Just encountered this problem on my T60p. Not sure if this can help you but this is what I found:

I recently replaced the fan unit with a T61 fan, which had a different structure over the GPU. So the silver plate that's used to bolt down the heatsink over the GPU/Northbridge chip created a lot more tension than with the T60p heatsink/fan. Once I tightened all the screws, the system would power on, but show only a black screen, with AC only, with Battery only and with both.

Since this happened right after tightening all screws, I opened it up, tried to boot, and nothing happened. Blank/Black screen. Then I removed the silver plate and tried again, and the system booted to Windows.
