Re: LCDs on T60/T60p - types, availability and other discussions
The backlight on my t61 has burnt out. It has a 15.4 WSXGA+ screen.
I'm guessing the screen itself is ok. When I boot up, I get a moment of normal light. Then something makes a fizzing noise and the light goes out, but I can still see faint words and images.
It seems to me (having poked around on the internet a while) that the sensible thing to do is buy an inverter and a backlight and replace them, for starters, before I sink any cash into a new screen. This will be my first major replacement project on a laptop.
Can someone here can point me to a video and/or set of instructions specific to the t61 15.4 combination? I've got several links for t6x, but all for 14 inch screens.
Also, have I missed any parts I should also buy?

Re: LCDs on T60/T60p - types, availability and other discussions
Interesting. Does anyone know which out of the 15" SXGA+/UXGA Flexviews (LG-Philips, IDTech and BOE-Hydis) are the least blue-white? Or is this determined by age? I've got an IDTech (N150U3-L01) and it seems a bit blue-white compared to my NEC S-PVA monitor. I prefer yellowish screens because I do 95% of my work with text on a white background. Obviously you have a bit more calibration with the RGB settings on an ext. monitor by just turning down the blue. But on a notebook calibration suffers: I can only add a red hue but you can't decrease the blue when it's already zero.misfit wrote: I decided to bite the bullet and buy a Boe-Hydis HV150UX1-100 from cgsplcd on ebay.
It seems *soooo* blue-white, my eyes almost feel like I'm in a nightclub with UV lighting! I'm fairly sure that it's not just a reaction to having used a yellowing display for so long as I also have a couple of 20" UXGA desktop monitor (Dell 2007FPb - the IPS version) and they're fine (great actually). My SXGA+ was quite yellow compared with the Dells but now the UXGA is *very* blue in comparison. I'd read the Boe-Hydis' were bluish but I wasn't prepared for this - considering I have two T43ps and a T42p with UXGA that are awesome - surely one of those is a BH?
Will the blue tone-down over time? I guess my eyes will get used to it to a degree but I don't think that's good for them is it? (Already I'm finding I need a second or two for my eyes to adjust when I look away from the screen.) Is there any way I can adjust it to compensate? I played with CCC but didn't find anything that made much difference. It's really nice having the extra screen real estate on the T60 - my every day machine. (I didn't want to be bothered trying 'the solder on a chip and flash it' method or I'd have used one of the four UXGA FlexViews I have on T42/43ps - they're all *far* nicer colour rendition than this screen though.)

Re: LCDs on T60/T60p - types, availability and other discussions
In my experience the LG-Philips is the 'yellowest' followed by IDtech then BOE-Hydis. The BOE-Hydis that I was talking about has lost some of its 'new blue' colour now, much later and still being used for >5 hours daily.
I assume that as the CCFLs age they get more yellow and that, at least with some panels they might have their CCFLs putting out a bluer colour in the early part of their life to compensate for the yellowing later.

Re: LCDs on T60/T60p - types, availability and other discussions
Thanks, I acquired a LG-Philips flexview panel recently, and it's much more yellow than than the two IDTech flexviews I have, even though they are two years older. Sounds like a reasonable assumption - still these old IDTechs are still so stark white, I actually thought they were LED backlit!misfit wrote:In my experience the LG-Philips is the 'yellowest' followed by IDtech then BOE-Hydis. Re: LCDs on T60/T60p - types, availability and other discussions
Hello fellow ThinkPadders
I have a question regarding a particular LCD unit I found on ebay. The seller says that it is a "LG Philips screen with the part number LP150U03(A2)(P1)". I did some research and found that it is the UXGA screen, used in previous generations 4x Thinkpads.
My question is whether some of you knows if it is compatible with T60 hardware, does it have the discussed EEPROM and if yes - is EDID modification needed in order to install it on a T60.
This is the auction, the pricing looks like a good deal:

I wonder if someone can help me identify the display on a T60 8741 I found for sale?
The seller says it is a 14,1" HD led 1680 x 1050 ( WSXGA+ ). From the pictures though it does not look like a wide-screen.
Is it a flexview? If not, is it worth getting? (It's a present for someone that does nature photography on hobby-level.)
Also, the plan is to put a sata3 ssd in it, will it be fast enough for editing photos etc?
Thank you!

And the 14.1" HD led is another false indicator.
More likely it's a (decent enough looking) 14.1" XGA (1024x768) with CCFL, certainly not HD and not widescreen.
Ask for a picture of the first BIOS-page as well, since all 8741 T60 machines are widescreen 15.4"

It was 1024 x 768 :/ Not a serious seller imo.RealBlackStuff wrote:And the 14.1" HD led is another false indicator.

Re: LCDs on T60/T60p - types, availability and other discussions
As I've been on rebuilding spree, I've come across some Glossy WXGA+s for the T-61 widescreen 14.1'. They're Samsung, and overall the color isn't bad. This was unintentional, as a was looking for the usual matte finish. As long as one doesn't mind the reflections, the sharpness does appear greater than that in a Matte. (I originally thought that some of the "smudges" in dark areas of the Win 10 "sea cave" were actually real shadows).
My question is whether there is an equivalent for T-60 15" Frankenpad rebuilds? I did find a LG-Phillips LP-150-U03 in Matte, which looks great (for not being IPS, right?).
Is any one aware of some Glossy version, if one goes in that direction?
It looks like "glossies" started with widescreens (e.g. T-61 14.1" widescreen and the 15.4". (WUXGA).

Most likely not, since it's probably missing the EDID chip required for it to be "seen" by T60's BIOS.kfzhu1229 wrote:http://www.ebay.ca/itm/162096266433?redirect=mobile

I tried my best to read through the entire thread. A voyage through time.
So, this will likely fit a T60 after EDID modification, correct?

And, does that include soldering or only flashing?

Some of those -101 screens (such as this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/280770292021) have an EDID chip already.
If missing, it requires both soldering and flashing.

How much better is the UX2 over the UX1? Is it just brightness, or color reproduction?

HV150UX1 has CCFL backlight ex-factory
HV150UX2 has LED backlight ex-factory.
UX2 is miles ahead of UX1.

What does 'miles ahead' actually mean? I mainly use high contrast colors, here's an example: https://a.uguu.se/5DMNGtxVNM08_xga.png
I'm at %40 according to an Fn+PgUp/PgDn. So I don't need it to be too bright.
The pics in theboardroom are only a brightness change, which wouldn't matter as much with a dark scheme. Granted my setup is likely not very usual, so I assume finding information would be a little bit more difficult, therefore I'm asking here.

Did you follow the 3 links under Soup up your...?
Plenty of pictures there.

Yep, I totally missed them. Definitely looks gorgeous - but as I'll have to wait until the thinkpad I've bought actually gets here.
Price is also a factor, however.. it makes me think of better get them now than later. What would you say? The screens from what I've seen can go for quite a bit of money. Should I get it even if the screen is good? EDIT: also, what's a reliable source? All's bought from the link George put in a recent thread about displays.
