I am trying to figure out the bluetooth specs on my T61 (6460-DWU), specifically which class it is. I am looking into A2DP streaming and want to figure out my range before investing into additional hardware...

The tabook does not give any details about the bluetooth chipset. The hardware reference manual mentions ThinkPad Bluetooth with Enhanced Data Rate (BDC-2), which based on this ThinkWiki page suggests Broadcom BCM2045 chipset. The product brief states that it "supports class 1, 2 and 3 designs", which does not really narrow it down for me ;)...

Can anyone shed some light on this?

Thanks in advance.

According to the Lenovo Parts lookup page I have installed within my T60p Bluetooth FRU: 39T0497 (Same FRU as the T61's) - which has a BCM2045B chipset (found in the Device Manager > Bluetooth Devices > right click ThinkPad Bluetooth with Enhanced Data Rate > Location: Location 0 (BCM2045B)) this suggests it is a Bluetooth Version 2.0 + EDR card according to the Broadcom BCM2045 product brief - This chipset can support data rates of up to 3Mbps possibly with a max theoretical range of 100metres (Class 1 - 100mW max) - Also there is a newer spec, Bluetooth VERSION 2.1 + EDR which offers improved pairing and optimized power consumption. There are vendors selling Bluetooth USB dongles with a claimed range of 250metres.

I do not know if the Bluetooth specifications will match the needs of A2DP streaming for data transfer and range, but do hope the above info helps a little - Best of luck :)
