Upgrade T60 Processor? (Pic)
Is it possible to upgrade my Core Duo 1.83 processor to a Core 2 Duo processor. Already have 3 g ram.
If your motherboard is "revision 3", you can. A number of people has already done this.

Yes,you could replace the Core Duo with a Core 2 Duo Merom processor(T5500,T5600,T7200,T7400 and T7600). They are socket M type, same with the Core Duo. But don't buy those with socket P type, they won't fit T60s originally installed with Core Duo.
T60p(2008-93U) Core Duo T2600 2.13GHz,2GB RAM,ATi V5200,15" UXGA display,320GB 7200RPM
Use cpu-z to check board revision.

I remplace my T0p Core Duo by a Core 2 Duo T7200. It takes me about 10 minutes to do it but I'm very common with computer hardware. Get the hardware maintenance manual from your laptop and follow the instructions. It can take you about 30 to 45 minutes if it's your first time.

Yes and no... If you do a bad work, it can. If you make a clean job, Lenovo did not really care. I got an issu with the mainboard of a T41p. They change the mainboard and even not noticed that if was an other CPU.
Most time, SAV is made by *low end* technical guys. They only exhange parts. And they do not always make a proper work. So don't ask them to look futher...

hello,
im using one T60-2623D6U with CPU Intel T2400 now. Im planning to upgrade to new T7400 with 4MB Cache and hopefully with lower temperature at working.
There are Information about my CPU & Mainboard. What should i notice before choose/buy a new CPU for my laptop ? Does anyone of you have model 2623D6U and did this upgrade before ?

As i see in intel website, T7400 works with Chipset i965 (my chipset is i945)-> do i have any problem ? [http://www.intel.com/cd/channel/reselle ... /index.htm]
Where can i buy T7400 with good price in germany if anyone knows. Ebay is not really good choice because nobody sells T7400 atm
MOD EDIT: Picture warning added.

Yes, no problem upgrading to a T7400 CPU (with revision 3 motherboard - which you have) in your T60 2623-D6U.
There are a few ebay vendor's who ship T7400's world wide.

Be sure that you purchase a T7400 with PINS as a BALL GRID version does not fit into your Thinkpad!
I've noticed that more and more T7400 BALL Grid versions are offered (on Ebay and they like)!!!
Just FYI:

thank you all for your replies. I've noticed the important difference between Pin & Ball model. I hate buying CPU outside Germany, because i have to pay 19% import-duty after that
Another questions
- Do i have problem with different working voltage between T2400 and T7600 ?
- What's different between ES (Engineering Sample) and original model, should i buy it (ES) ?
thank you guys

Look at the 3rd digit in the "7100." It's an odd number. Those are Socket P.crispy517 wrote:Is it possible to upgrade a T60 from T2500 to T7100?

I just replaced a T2400 with a T7400 on a T60 that someone asked me to do. It's not hard at all. It took me about 15 minutes, start to finish. It's all outlined in the the hardware maintenance manual if you want a reference.
