My T61P suddenly started giving me the error beeps with no display when I turn it on. It sounds "Beeeeeeeeep Beep, Beep" (1 Long, 2 short)
So far, I've tried w/ & w/o battery, swapping the memories in memory bank, removed HDD, DVD drive, connected to external display, etc. but still the same issue. I also observed that the fan starts normally for a few seconds when I switch it on & stops, followed by the above beeps.
I suspect the problem could be with the motherboard or there's a short somewhere.
1) Is there anything else I can do to rule out the faulty components?
2) Does anyone know where the problem could be?
3) What are my options to fix it & approximately how much will it cost?
Thank you!

One long and two short beeps, and a blank or unreadable LCD.
1. System board
2. LCD assembly
3. DIMM

I have the same problem & beeps with my t61p. Had it checked and its the mainboard. A problem caused by NVidia, a common problem with the T61p...I read somewhere that IBM extended the warranty for this particular problem.,HitsOfMisses wrote:My T61P suddenly started giving me the error beeps with no display when I turn it on. for a temporary fix:
1. take out the battery
2. plug in the computer
3. close the lid and put the laptop in the case or cover it up completely
when it overheats (something about flow something or other) it will shut down.
then restart...Vualla....it worked for me a few times then I just took the machine to the nearest ibm warranty service provider and now they tell me since they don't have the 'mainboard' in Thailand they will have to get it from overseas and it could take two months.....first they told me about a week....

My Thinkpad T61p Quadro 570M just died, see the OP's thread. Removed Ram/Hdd etc. no changes. Killed by the Quadro bug :~/
