Outdated: Sierra MC 8790 WWAN-Card, How to - after recognition?!??

#1 Post by friedrich-eugen » Sat Jan 08, 2011 11:20 am

Hello,
and a happy new Year to all of You,

any suggestions how to?

The problem: T60, Zenders Bios (*.25), Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit,
- with SXGA/15",
- ATI FireGl 5200 256 MB,
- 4GB RAM, T7600 CPU, 500 GB HDD,
- WLAN Intel 5300 and
new: SIM-Card-Reader & MC 8790 WWAN-Card
does not see the WWAN-Card. May be I am blind... / No, it does now (09.01)

(With Zenders Bios, is it neccessary to "tape contact 20",
which one is the one with the number 20?)

But it does not work ... see post beneeth...

Thanks in advance

-- addendum -- Still help needed - It is not contact 20, I suppose !?!!

I managed to make the card visible:

(1) It shows as Modem as "Sierra Wireless AirCard HSDPA Modem"
(2) It shows as "Anschlüsse" COM & LPT" as
- Sierra Wireless Application Interface (1 to 3, Com 4 to 6),
- Sierra Wireless Diagnostics interface (Com 7).

If I try and start diagnostics the diagnosis hangs. If I install any of Sierras "Generic Watcher" software versions, the card is not reognised...

I have several flavors of that software:
(1) 3g Generic watcher, 15.609kb,
(2) Generic watcher dated 20.12.2010, 18.441kb
(3) Watcher Generic, 32.363kb
(4) Sierra Wireless Software Suite V2.34 683.056kb (does not fit, to"young")

I looked for Thinkpads-Drivers for Sierra WWAN-Cards, there is none concerning the MC8790 (it seems some are for 8775, but US Version of broadband).
The GPS-function is not seen and drivers from lenovo do not fit.

Anyone with some hints, how to overcome the obstacles?

Thanks in advance, once again...
