X31 Battery: Can I Set it to charge only from 20%-80%?

#1 Post by waykeong » Wed May 25, 2005 12:01 pm

I have a X31 battery. I heard battery life will be 4 times longer if it is not always fully charged, up to 80% would be sufficient.

But I would like to set my X31 to charge the battery once it drop to 20% and stop charge at 80%.

Would it be possible to set up this way?

Thanks. Pardon for my lousy english.

4 times longer from less charge?

IMO if that's true I suspect the battery makers would have caught on by now...let the little circut board inside your battery worry about how to get the most out of it. that's what it's for.

you can charge it whenever it gets to 20% if you wish, of course then giving up the 30 or 40 or whatever minutes you had left... but charging to 80... that will take some guesswork.. .you'll have to unplug it to see.

Yes, you can set those thershold levels.
Do the following steps:
(1) click at Thinkpad Configuration of Control Panel,
(2) click at Battery Information Icon,
(3) click at Battery Health Button,
(4) click at Improve Battery Health Button,
(5) Set two values of Battery Charge Thresholds which are the percentage (%) of Start charging when below and the percentage(%) of Stop charging at.
(6) Click OK.
That's all.

My TP is X40 2731-1CA 1.0GHz Banius CPU, it is a very old model of TP X40. Battery Maximizer version is 1.36.
I'm wondering why your X31 have no Improve Battery Health function.
According to the file 1xu105u1.txt, there are the following imformation
(http://www-306.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-51268).
<1.36>
-(New) Support for Improve Battery Health function to longer battery
lifespan for ThinkPad X40.

In this file, it doesn't say that it support this function in X31.

Are there any one who own X31 have this function?

Waykeong:
What is you Battery Maximizer version number?
You can see it when you launch Battery Maximizer Wizard.
It is on the lower right of the Welcome page (above Back, Next, Cancle suttons).
The original version of mine is 1.36. Today, I download a newversion of the program.
I installed it by clicking the downloaded file, and reboot. The old version still remains.
It didn't change to version 1.38. I uninstall it and reinstall it by the "Software Installer"
and reboot again. Then the version 1.38 will take effect.

I tried to find information of this issue from some TP X31s at the computer shop.
I had no luck because they took the battery out, then Battery Information and Battery Maximizer didn't not show on their machine.
ps.
According to information from Battery TIP I saw this "Changing Battery Charge Thresholds (some systems only)".

oh skhamron,

so much thanks for your effects for helping me.. really appreciate it.

anyway, i know normally the exe downloaded from IBM will only copy the extracted file to specific folders only. We can either use Software Installer or double-click it (the setup file in that specific folder) to install drivers or software.

btw, my version is 1.38. Still no help today. Maybe need my battery status becomes "yellow" or "red", then i can use this function.
