I was amazed when I found this today in eBay more or less by coincidence. A 240GB drive! It's pricey but it's quite a lot of space for the old X4* series. I was not aware of the existence of this drive even after following many topics in this forum.

You'll find here the drive specs: http://sdd.toshiba.com/main.aspx?Path=S ... 1GAxSeries
And here one of the offers in eBay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... FP:US:1348

Unfortunately, seems that it may only work in iPods: http://www.micropctalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6084

I'm not an expert in hdd's, but it looks weird to me that it won't work in notebooks, even when the answers of the link above seem plausible.

Any experts here that can share a light in this topic?

Cheers!

It is an interesting post. I used 120GB in my X40 and wanted to try 240GB.

This post makes me hesitate to do that. Good post anyway.

Which brand are you using? Toshiba, Samsung?

You cannot imagine how big I opened my eyes when I saw the 240GB model. I thought first it could be a mistake, but it exists really.

Somehow I'm dissapointed that there are no replies to this topic from any experts of the forum. Let's hope for more feedback or opinions...

Cheers

At over $200, this drive is not an economical match to X40/X41/X41t. 2MB sector size is another unknown to deal with. So it is hard to justify buying one at the moment.

Sure it is not. However it "could" be the only way to get 240GB on an old X4x series. I understand that the price will scare many people.

Now don't get me wrong, it's not that I'm inciting people to buy and experiment with it, but I was somehow amazed, that given the lots of topics which deals around "hardcore" TP modifications in this forum, nobody mentioned this drive before. It's not really a new drive.

Cheers

As far as I know. Both Toshiba and Samsung 120GB work well with X4 series.
Mine is a Toshiba drive, it is 4200RPM. Samsung has one that is a litter faster, 5400RMP.
I had a bad experience with Samsung hard drive before. I avoid their HD even it is a bit faster.

Likewise I had bad experience with Toshiba drive. The best for me is Fujitsu but no support for 1.8 inch.
