I'm seriously impressed. Low-cost SSD combined with an OS that was never meant to be run on solid state drives to begin with seems to be quite a good combo in your system.Shredder11 wrote:Here is a benchmark result for a Crucial BX100 250GB SSD drive in this X61 with Windows XP Pro SP3:

I've installed SSD drives to a few of my Thinkpads and some other desktop PCs, but it does feel quite rapid on this X61 I'm having issues with the system temperatures again though, with the CPU at 91°C and the fan at 5837rpm as I type this. It's in a dock but the temps are still in the seventies out of the dock. I wonder if that new application of thermal paste has burnt itself away? Just taken it out of the dock and closed the browser and now temps are back down to 44°C and fan at 3911rpm. Hmmm...

Don't use the dock. It makes the CPU run hotter than normal.

Yeah I got away with it when using my X60s and X61s machines, but alas not with the X61. I wonder if it is possible to mod the dock to incorporate some small low profile cooling fans?

^ I was actually contemplating it back when my primary Thinkpad was an X61.
I've moved on to an X220, but I still have the Ultrabase X6.
Just yesterday I acquired a "defective" X60 and put an X61 board in it (should it be called an X601 Frankenpad?), so now I have the means to revisit the idea.

I have two Ultrabase X6 docking stations, so I can afford to modify one and risk losing it.
