Need some Ultrabay help...
Just lately I had difficulty removing my ultrabay and I see that the little silver friction/pressure thingy on the left side is sticking out. This is on the PCs socket, not the ultrabay cartidge. I will try a gradual dismantle to see if i can "get at it" and fix it somehow but the manual I have doesn't cover this. Anyone know of a downloadable pdf? The one I have is not detailed enough. "ThinkPad T61 and T61p (15.4-inch
widescreen) Hardware Maintenance Manual".

Are you talking about the two metal "springs" on the left, inside the ultrabay?
They are attached together.
But to fix/remove those, you'd need to take the whole chassis (incl. mobo) out and turn it over.
Then you can pull it out, bend it straight and reinsert it, or keep it out altogether.
There's no illustrated doc for that, you'll have to use your ingenuity.

Yes, that's it. I stripped it partway and can see exactly what you describe, but I can't get at it. If I had my needlenosed pliers here I would attempt yanking it out. Guess further dismantling's the "proper" way to go. Thanks. I'll give it a go.RealBlackStuff wrote:Are you talking about the two metal "springs" on the left, inside the ultrabay?

Use a small flat screwdriver and try to push the narrow shiny metal strips in, they are only a weak type of metal.
Straightening them out should do the trick.
If you take out the HD, you can also see the middle part of that shiny strip inside the HD bay.

Success! With the HD out and a few more screws undone to loosen up the edge I was able to pry it loose with a letter opener and then get a purchase on it with tweezers. The patient is doing nicely (the T61 is doing well too). Thanks again Ray!RealBlackStuff wrote:Use a small flat screwdriver and try to push the narrow shiny metal strips in, they are only a weak type of metal.

Dom! Please forgive the blunder... Yes, I know you are my T61 man. Your T601 is my fave, and the one that just underwent surgery.RealBlackStuff wrote:I'm not Ray, but Dom, your T61 supplier...
