I thought I wanted to retire this X61 Tablet...

Yes, it's the one with the broken hinge.

Currently, it has:

Core 2 Duo L7700 (1.8GHz)
2 x 1GB DDR2-667
slow 320GB HDD with Windows 10 (just for testing/evaluation)
Intel 3945ABG wifi (which is probably the cause of that BSOD last time I used it)
Samsung PVA XGA screen
Dead battery :(

Short history:
Used to be my mother's machine till the hinge broke. Upgraded to Win 10 for testing. Last used it mid-October. Managed to purchase a Wacom stylus last December, but only got around to test it today-- Hot d*mn the digitizer works!

I'm eager to play with it more as it's my first time with a penabled computer. I find myself wanting to get it back to full operational capability, which goes against my original plan to finally retire this particular machine.

Note that I also have two non-Tablet X60/61 units as "spares" . Yes the Thinkpad bug is biting me hard.

I was planning to convert the Tablet's display into a standalone LCD monitor (with VGA, HDMI and other inputs), then install it into a Thinkpad chassis along with a Thinkpad USB keyboard (with Trackpoint). Said chassis is a positively ancient 560E with a dead screen. :P
Planned Purchase: T480s i5-8350 FHD Touch
Impulse Buy: Thinkpad not named for safety reasons
RIP: X220 4291-C91 X61 7676-A24 760XD-U9E

Still a serviceable laptop. Buy a new hinge or better yet buy a cheap T60 tablet with SXGA+ screen. The complete screen assembly from these two models are a drop dead replacement for each other. I prefer this modification better than a T601 Frankenpad. I like the smaller size.

Tablet-style Thinkpads are quite rare here. I doubt that I can find one for a reasonable price.

Abbreviated History:
I got them for dirt cheap: equivalent to $15 USD for 2 battered but working X61T's and another one with a working SXGA+ screen but cracked protective glass.
The L7700 was the one with the cracked glass, so I took the lid from one of the other units. The one that lost its screen eventually became an X601sT Frankenpad for a client.

I managed to liberate the SXGA+ panel from the broken glass, but killed a few pixels in the process. However, it was completely destroyed during my attempt at the X61 SXGA+ mod.

The L7700 ended up with my mother, while the other complete X61T (L7500) became my backup. When the L7700's hinge broke, I moved its HDD to the L7500 instead of swapping the lid or the board.

I've tried the stylus on the L7500 earlier, but couldn't get it to work. That's why I'm immensely pleased that it works on the L7700.

Thinkpads I currently own

1. X220 -- primary machine
2. X220 -- used to be my sister's, has a random shutdown issue
3. X61 T7500 -- originally planned to be swapped with a friend's T410, but she sold it instead
4. X60 T2300 -- recently rebuilt, no current plans other than libreboot testing
5. X61T L7700 -- the subject of this thread
6. 560E -- dead screen, donor for portable monitor/keyboard project

The X61T L7500 is still with my mother, but it's just a backup machine. A new Lenovo Ideapad with a Celeron N3150 quad-core arrived late December (raffle prize from an office Christmas party).
