hi all,

I managed to remove the profiles but only after I installed lenovo's access connection.

Its strange lenovo and sierra wireless must share the same profile file, as all of the same profiles loaded in access connections.

Anyway I managed to delete them and install the latest v3.0 watcher from Sierra's site and all is working well.

Im also using Lenovo's mobile broadband connection manager which is a great no frills connection manager.

Glad to here that you have managed to delete the stubborn profiles - This maybe be a great work around for anyone having the same problem, as long as Access Connection can see their WWAN card (Lenovo branded or adjust the vendor ID's in the Access Connection dll's to recognise their WWAN card etc).

Did you manage to install Firmware H2_0_7_1BMCAP - if so, what speeds are you getting and have you noticed any performance differences?

thanks for that.

I edited the registry for hours and still had the profiles so it was good to have them removed.

As a part of the profile issue I downgraded to 1.93. I cant seem to upgrade to the call direct firmware v2.07 as it states 'you already have the latest firmware'. I'll try giving it a go tonight.

After some stuffing around I installed the H2_0_7_1BMCAP firmware.

Everything seems fine and windows is reporting the connection at 7.2Mb/s.

Ive run some tests and Ive noticed some performance increases.

Both the Vodafone and Optus networks I tested are UMTS HSDPA 2100Mhz here in Sydney.

I'll run some tests with the 3 2100Mhz and I'll give the Telstra 850Mhz NextG network a go if I can get it working the MC8775.

Rambler: Thanks for sharing your speedtest results :thumbs-UP: - I too will post some results from T-Mobile UK, Vodafone UK & 3-UK soon, which are all UMTS HSDPA 2100Mhz only in the UK.

Keep in mind that Speedtest.net is fairly useless for providing any useful indication of real WWAN performance.

Cheers,

I have found an intetresting link to UK magazine PCPRO that states "PC Pro has teamed up with the internet specialists Thinkbroadband.co.uk to create the UK's first mobile broadband speedtest". I ran the test on the PCPRO site and at Speedtest.net UK server within minutes of each other and found both results were similar: (Very slow for this time of day!)

3-UK (HSDPA Area) Time 1303Hrs GMT - PCPRO results
Download Speed: 433.39 Kbps
Upload speed: 51.61 Kbps

3-UK (HSDPA Area) Time 1306Hrs GMT - Speedtest.net results
Download Speed: 425 Kbps
Upload speed: 50 Kbps

While the PCPRO link is essentially geared to test UK mobile broadband speeds - I wonder if there are any providers around the globe providing a similar service?

Hi there

i have an Asus u3s which has an inbuilt MC 8775 3g modem, i have followed this whole thread and successfully updated to the latest telstra v2 firmware.

but i cant find it how to activate the 850 mhz 3g so that i can use telstra next g network here in au, under option i can only find 2100mhz as in 3g and 900/1800 in gsm.

i would really appreciate any info on how to turn on the 850 mhz band.

thanks in advance

hi,

if you have a look at earlier posts you'll notice Im having the same issue.

setting wireless watcher to 3G all should pick up the 'Telstra' NextG network.

I suspect your MC8775 might be an asia pacific 2100 UMTS / 900/1800 GSM band locked model.

If your picking up '3Telstra' with your sim your using 3's 2100 network as they have roaming agreements with each other.

If this is the case I havent found a solution for a band locked MC8775.

For my HS2300 I had to use a different version of the binupdater (the original one was complaining about not finding a valid card). I uploaded it here for you: http://ifile.it/23bpl07
Also it would be great if someone with access to the cisco files could upload the 2.08 firmware somewhere, as this seems to be the newest one out there. (the 2.07 from call direct is by its dating older than the previous 1.19 version...)

best regards

if anyone else wants the latest known 2_0_8_19 firmware (from cisco) here it is: http://rapidshare.com/files/201761041/8 ... 9.tar.html

These are the release notes, so Americans might want to keep away from this:
Quote:
Firmware release H2_0_8_19 for HWIC-3G-GSM. Firmware NOT for North America. For HSDPA Network with Uplink 384 Kbps and Downlink 7.2 Mbps. Firmware Downgrade NOT Supported CAUTION: Check with carrier for HSDPA support before downloading

I flashed my HS2300 successfully, but as atm I don't have a SIM I could not verify it yet.

thanks cyn!

i take it that the north American reference means no 850Mhz and 1900Mhz UMTS and GSM bands ?

you seem to be right about this. Hyperterming "at!band=?" lists only 900/1800 GSM and the 2100 WCDMA bands. According to sierras manual, the full set would contain 850/1900 for both standards as well as various combinations.
I never tried this command with other firmwares, so I can't say anything about thier frequency support...
Maybe if you still have 2.0.7 installed you can check which bands that supports?

Hello everybody.

Here is the stupid guy needing help on a basic subject.

I did put a Lenovo MC8775 card (P/N 04T0931) in my X61T. Sierra Wieless Watcher installed. Works perfectly in France on the Orange network. I get 3G speed, i.e. 3.6MB. Wonderful.

So, of course, looking for trouble, I want more and would like to upgrade the firmware to 7.2MB. I've downloaded the latest known 2_0_8_19 firmware (thanks to cyn). But I am unable to find binupdater.exe. I've searched everywhere in Sierra application Folder. Searched on theforum. Googled it. No way.

It looks like everybody can easily find and use it but me. I would really appreciate any info. Thanks in advance.

The exact path is C:\Program Files\Sierra Wireless Inc\BinUpdater.exe, at least in my install of 3G Watcher 3.0.0.9.

Thank you bananaman.

It looks like Sierra Wireless has changed a few things in the last version of 3G Watcher (3.1.0.6.1986). After install, no more "binupdater.exe" in "C:\Program Files\Sierra Wireless Inc\". Only three subfolders :
- 3G Watcher
- TRU-Install
- WebUpdater

Can you please send me "binupdater.exe" ?

You can download it from Sierra's website.

Thank you for the direct link to the Sierra files, bananaman.

I followed the link and installed 3G_Watcher-Generic.msi on another computer to avoid interference. It is version 3.0.0.9. (build 1822) indeed. But the "Sierra Wireless Inc" folder has no "binupdater.exe" anymore. It looks like Sierra Wireless has changed the way one may update its firmware.

Can you please send me "binupdater.exe" ?

Guys, thanks for posting these info!

I updated the FW of my MC8775 with success and also the Watcher (using R3.1.0.6 build 1986 now). Nice!!! :thumbs-UP:

(Ah, I was able to login into Cisco's download page. Although I work for a Cisco partner, I think anyone can request an username / password. And Latest version is indeed 2.0.8.19 ).

I don't see any difference regarding the speed (however, I guess it is related with my provider). But I do see enhancement on connection's consistency / stability. I now stay connected for a long period w/o interruptions.

zozozo, here is the file you've requested (BinUpdater): http://rapidshare.com/files/211899353/B ... r.exe.html
I saved it before upgrading... (I like the new version. But I also couldn't find the BinUpdater nor Device's information like previous version has). (Hm, maybe you'll need some dlls too... (Error message after executing...) Let me know in this case, I would send that).

Thanks again,
- Fernando

Thanks to all who contributed in this thread. I just upgraded mine to H2.0.8.19. Not sure how it'll perform, but flashing is OK. Will update when I can.

Update:
Connecting to my HSPDA connection now display as 7.2 instead of 3.6mbits. On my limited 1Mbit/384kbit with speedtest, I achieved 770kbps/380kbps. I have a full 7.2mbit service on another SIM card but will need to try it in city area.

I have only 1 antenna with my WWAN card, so the speed will be limited.

I really wish I can upgrade my WLAN card to 4965 AGN now and my x61 will be a champ again, too bad, it is not recognized in x61.

I have a genuine lenovo branded MC8775 Card.

the 850/1900 band support was there prior to the latest firmware, which suggests it wasn't band locked to begin with, rather the new firmware doesn't or has blocked support.

:thumbs-UP: cordroosen, thanks for posting!

I've installed it... So far, so good!
I'm not sure if this is a coincidence but I do see a difference in my connection speed (when browsing).
Well, at least they say:
Enhanced Browsing
Watcher provides an enhanced web browsing experience increasing page download speeds up to fifty percent, regardless of network speed. Watcher optimizes the Internet Explorer web browser specifcally for the unique characteristics of wireless WAN networks.

But I don't know exactly what the new features are. There is no Release Notes!
(However, they provide a generic datasheet: http://www.sierrawireless.com/resources ... et_web.pdf)
