HI all,

so I have a fully working 10.8.5 on x220 Thanks to this forum.

So Now I am trying to get 10.9 working as well.

Starting point:

X220 with all kext working in 10.8.5
USB with mavericks based on Unibeats 3.0.1 installation.
New SSD.

So first I need to patch the Unibeast USB for MBR support as the X220 is not GPT booting capable.

Once done, i proceed to install 10.9.

Installation goes smooth. after that I ran Chimera or Chameleon to make the SDD bootable.

So now I have a bootable Machine that only needs to be patch for kext and dsdt.

As I have the ones from 10.8.5 y start patching, I am using Kext utility 2.5.6 to patch the kext files.

the issue I have is that I am getting and error from the kext utility saying kext were not able to be installed...

Does anyone has a clue ?

Do I need to find same kext but specially made for Mavericks ?

I also get error if I try kextutility on T400. On T60 it most of the time do not accept the password. I've been waiting a better version of the utility and at some point will try again. Workaroup would be to do everything manually but recently I have not had time to figure that out. EDIT: It could be possible that old kexts is the problem but somehow I do not think that is the reason...

Here is an easy guide to the steps I followed (with pictures!)

0.1) Prerequisites

• ・Existing Mac, Hackintosh or Virtual Machine
  ・Lenovo Thinkpad X220 or Lenovo Thinkpad X220T
  ・USB (Flash) Drive that is at least 5.7GB in volume for installation media.
  ・A working internet connection
  ・A few hours of free time and perhaps a coffee/beer or two or six

0.2) Required BIOS Settings

• ・SATA Controller Mode Option: AHCI
  ・Execution Prevention: Enabled
  ・Intel Virtualization Technology: Enabled
  ・Intel VT-d Feature: Disabled
  ・UEFI/Legacy Boot: Both
  ・UEFI/Legacy Boot Priority: Legacy First
  ・Boot Mode: Diagnostics

1) USB Installation Boot Media Preparation
Do the following on an existing Mac, Hackintosh or Virtual Machine:

• 1.1. Download OS X 10.9 Mavericks from the App Store
  1.2. Download Unibeast from tonymacx86 (You must create an account first).
  1.3. Open Disk Manager on your existing Hackintosh
  • 1.3.1. Find your USB Drive, go to the Partition tab.
    1.3.2. Select '1 Partition'
    1.3.3. Enter 'Installer' as the name
    1.3.4. Select 'Mac OS Extended (Journaled)'
    
    
    1.3.5. Click the 'Options' button, select 'Master Boot Record'
    
    
    1.3.6. Make sure there are no applications using the USB drive, now click 'Apply'. If successful, proceed.
  1.4. If step 1.1. has completed downloading, run Unibeast.
  • 1.4.1. Select your USB drive used in step 1.3.
    1.4.2. Check the boxes for 'Mac App Store Mavericks - 10.9' and 'Laptop Support'
    
    1.4.3. Proceed, enter your password when prompted. This will take about 5-10 min or more despite the incorrect estimated time, wait for it.
  1.5. Download the Mavericks 13A603 MBR Patch
  • 1.5.1. Extract this in your Downloads directory.
    1.5.2. Open the Terminal application.
    1.5.3. Change directory into where your USB drive is mounted. Enter into Terminal:

    Code: Select all

    cd /Volumes/Installer

    1.5.3. Enter into Terminal:

    Code: Select all

    cp ~/Downloads/System/Installation/Packages/OSInstall.mpkg System/Installation/Packages/

    1.5.4. Enter into Terminal (after, leave the terminal open for the next step 1.6.):

    Code: Select all

    cp ~/Downloads/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Install.framework/Frameworks/OSInstall.framework/Versions/A/OSInstall System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Install.framework/Frameworks/OSInstall.framework/Versions/A/

  1.6. Download the Extras provided by fraisdos125 in the Lion thread. Please report on what is not needed/which updates have been tested to work.
  • 1.6.1. Extract this in your Downloads directory.
    1.6.2. Enter into Terminal (that you left open from step 1.5.):

    cp -r ~/Downloads/Extra/Extensions/AppleACPIPS2Nub.kext Extra/Extensions/

    1.6.3. Enter into Terminal:

    Code: Select all

    cp -r ~/Downloads/Extra/Extensions/ApplePS2Controller.kext Extra/Extensions/

    1.6.4. Enter into Terminal:

    Code: Select all

    cp -r ~/Downloads/Extra/Extensions/EvOreboot.kext Extra/Extensions/

    1.6.5. Enter into Terminal (I have not tried the newer FakeSMC linked by fraisdos125, please report on this):

    Code: Select all

    cp -r ~/Downloads/Extra/Extensions/FakeSMC.kext Extra/Extensions/

    1.6.6. Enter into Terminal:

    Code: Select all

    cp -r ~/Downloads/Extra/Extensions/Patched_10.7_AppleRTC.kext Extra/Extensions/

    1.6.7. Enter into Terminal:

    Code: Select all

    cp -r ~/Downloads/Extra/Extensions/NullCPUPowerManagement.kext Extra/Extensions/

    1.6.8. OS X Mavericks 10.9 USB Installation Boot Media preparation is finished. Eject the disk.

2) Installation

• 2.1. Insert the USB stick or drive used in step 1.x. into your Thinkpad.
  2.2. Press F12 whilst booting to bring up the boot menu.
  2.3. Select the USB stick of drive and hit Enter.
  2.4. With 'Installer' selected, type:

  -x

  .. and press Enter to begin the install.
  
  2.5. Press <Spacebar> to skip "Pair a Bluetooth keyboard" dialog when it appears. We will fix this later.
  2.6. From the 'Utilities' menu select 'Disk Utility'.
  
  
  • 2.6.1. After selecting your internal hard drive select '1 Partition'.
    2.6.2. Enter Name 'Mavericks' and select Format 'Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
    2.6.3. Click Options, select 'Master Boot Record', hit OK.
    
    2.6.4. Click Apply.
  2.7. Continue through the installer until completion, afterwards reboot.
  
  
  Post install section will come in the next few days. Please post any comments or even your own guide that can be incorporated into this part of other parts of this guide.

Were you able to create the 'Post Install Guide'?

I have a X220 Core i5 ... Intel HD 3000 Graphics ... etc . . .

Your Install process was flawless ... though I'm really confused with getting the Audio working ... and what hardware works and doesn't. Every time i've tried to use MultiBeast, I end up with a system that fails to boot and have to start from scratch.

I'd grateful if you could create a guide for 'Post Installation' or some kind of step by step explanation. I'm typically a very technical guy... though this is my first Hackintosh attempt. There seems to be a gap in explanation in most peoples conversation about DSDTs, kext, etc ...

I'm not sure which one to use, what features to enable in MulitBeast, or how to do a manual install of kexts... Maybe there is a document I missed somewhere along the way.

Now that I have followed your install process... updated the USBDrive with all the kext's, etc... is there a particular DSDT or particular settings I need to include in running MultiBeast? I'd like to get the audio working... I'd love to have wireless ... and even more important, i'd love to have the HDD boot without the USBDrive.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Please help. I have followed the instruction from above and finished installation of Mavericks on Lenovo X220. I got the audio to work by using Multibeast and install VoodooHDA v2.8.4. Disabled the Bluetooth annoying msg through the Bluetooth setting.

Current issue:
No battery management
Cannot adjust the screen brightness level.
Cannot boot directly to HDD without using the USB stick.

Most importantly, can someone show me a way to boot directly to the HDD?
I have tried the Multibeast's EasyBeast setting and DSDT-Free. Both failed and I had to reinstall the Mavericks.

A newbie to Hackintosh

Here's my files that works well on my x220 Mavericks.

Instructions:
1. Download and run Multibeast
2. Choose UserDSDT and select my dsdt.aml


3. In Drivers section, select System/Patched AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement tick OS X 10.9.0


4. In Customize select Boot Options select Hibernate Mode - Laptop


5. Select your System Definitions, Macbook Pro 8,1 would be fine

6. Select Build and start install with Multibeast

After Multibeast finish, install AppleACPIPlatform.kext, AppleHDA.kext, AppleSmartBatteryManager.kext
Copy my ssdt.aml to /Extra if your cpu is Core i5-2430M. If not you need to create your own ssdt file to match your cpu, follow this post to create one.

Reboot and see how it work.

Sry to be a newb, how do I install AppleACPIPlatform.kext, AppleHDA.kext, AppleSmartBatteryManager.kext ?

Update: After re-start. The computer boot directly to harddrive and load the OSX. Everything looks great, including battery indicator. However, my keyboard, mouse, and trackpad stop working. Any suggestion?

Reinstall ApplePS2Controller.kext from your usb with Kext Ultility and it should work well

Thank you very much. All is working. I couldn't figure out how would I get the ApplePS2Controller.kext file from the usb. Instead, I use Multibeast and install only that file. Everything is working now.

Update: Seems like the new update that allow direct boot to HDD also disabled the Ethernet, maybe everything else prior to that. For all other newbs out there, dont forget to reinstall other drivers, like Intel Ethernet from Multibeast, to get back to working stage.

Whats work:
Sleep, Trackpad, Ethernet, Volume, Battery meter, Close Lid and auto put to sleep (keyboard works after wake)
Microphone and camera works - tested through Skype
Audio port works, USB2.0 works

Whats not:
Display port - only screen show but no sound, I really want to get the sound and video to work
No keyboard shortcut to change brightness - have to do manually through setting
Wifi not working - i have the non-intel wifi that comes with the laptop and still not working.

Not tested (Unknown):
VGA port - did not test because I have no TV with VGA input or spare monitor.
Memory Card - no spare SD card around
Laptop doesn't come with USB3.0 to test

it has the same issue on 10.8.5 which i am using now.

regarding on short cut to change brightness, you can use "ScrLk" and "Pause" keys to change. they do work.
about wifi: the best way is to buy a compatible card, it makes your life so much easier. I am currently using " Broadcom
BCM94322HM8L" on my x220 with 10.8.5 on.( it works on 10.9 as well, i tested)

Yes brightness adjust u can use ScrLk and Pause key to change it.
For wifi buy a Dell 1515 Wireless-N, it work out of the box

You should try another AppleACPIPlatform.kext rollback, maybe 10.8.1 or back to older version. Try diff version of it.

Hi, I've installed 10.9 on my X220 thanks to Aravesque's instructions. How does the availability of the 10.9.2 update affect post-installation procedures?

Did clean install on a test drive, everything worked out fine even with the sleep by using superkhung's file. Then updated to 10.9.2, the only big problem was the "AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext". It would not boot into system at all after updating. So I replaced "AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext" with the one from my previous drive which was running 10.9. then booted into the system. after that just reinstalled superkhung kexts again.

so far, no issues at all, quite stable. only thing i noticed is that fan spins a bit louder. I will look into how to mod dsdt for fan control, if anyone has fan control experience please could you share it.

Update1:

Tried to mod dsdt for fan speed but without succeed.
However, after I installed NullCPUPowerManagement.kext, laptop runs a lot quieter. interesting i think.

Hi there.
I have a x220 with i5 2520m, 8gb, 2 ssd's, on one i have a windows, on the other, witch is msata I'm trying to install the os x. The BIOS is not patched to whitelist other wifi cards, i'll be using an usb wifi dongle.

I'm trying for a time now to install, run properly the 10.9.1 OS X, but with little luck. I'm gonna insert a photo with the error message that I get a little later.
So, what did I do till now:
1. from a virtual machine under windows I've created an install usb disk with OS X 10.9.1. with Unibeast and according to Aravesque's instruction regarding the Mavericks MBR patch and the Extras provided by frasidos125. So this is my installer disk.
2. I've installed the OS.(installed it several times, my goal is not to use the whole disk for OS X, so I've tried with 1 partition and also with 2 partition, the second partition being left as free space).
3. I'm stuck at the post install, because I can't get it work right after trying numerous possibilities. I've used superkhung files, made my own ssdt.aml, followed the instructions, but every time i have a panic cpu error when I restart after all I installed.

At this point I have no clue what I'm doing wrong, it's probably some minor detail that I overlooked, don't know what.
I'll appreciate help, and as detailed as possibly can....

Its the AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext causing the problem.
You can download my kexts from https://www.dropbox.com/s/u5b51i2ewjbgf ... _kexts.zip, since we have the same specs.

If you can boot into safe mode -x -v, then just replace AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext with mine by using Kext Utility. If not, you can use your install usb or reinstall.
Note: There is a NullCPUPowerManagement.kext included, you don't have to use it.

having said that your system is similar to mine, I've used your dsdt.aml and ssdt.aml files, and thus, I can report a partial success, my problem is now similar to what sn50 mentioned, that I don't have a working keyboard, mouse and trackpad. I also tried to install ApplePS2Controller.kext when I was installing the other drivers with kext utility, but interestingly, that also hasn't worked out. I'm going to try to install it again with multibeast, let's see... any other idea still very appreciated.

Emm... , Did you boot into safe mode or did you reinstall?
you don't have to use Multibeast, all it does is to install different kexts for you. Just make sure you install all kexts using Kext Utility (expect NullCPUPowerManagement.kext, for now)

There are VoodooPS2Controller.kext and VoodooPS2Daemon included. Make sure you put VoodooPS2Daemon into /usr/bin folder, then install VoodooPS2Controller.kext into s/l/e. ( having said that the kexts for keyboard in you installer usb should work)

Please report update.

Safe mode hasn't worked either, so had to reinstall. I was convinced that I installed the keyboard driver by dragging it to kext utility, but did not put VoodooPS2Daemon into /usr/bin...
So far working perfectly, so many thanks for the help.
Does the SD card reader have an easy to install kext? Any luck with that?
Also, can the updates from the App Store be downloaded and installed or it will just screw up the system? I don't mean system updates like the 10.9.2.(I'm on 10.9.1), just iTunes, etc..
If it would help other noobs like me and maybe to check me up, later on I will post a list of the kext's that I installed.

Glad it worked out ok.
SD card reader does not work, in fact, it broke system sleep after i tried it. maybe its the kext broke other kexts, not sure about that.For me, I don't use sd card reader, so I did not dig any further. you can try to search for voodooSDHC.kext, there are some out there.

You can do software update just like a real mac, however, be aware of system update, it will break AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext or maybe other kexts, so you will have to reinstall that after update.

Anyhow, I purchased the Dell 1515 wireless N and installed on the X220. However, the laptop stop working cuz the bios doesnt recognize the wireless chip. Is there a working, verified, way to approach this? a safe bios?
If there is a bios that I can flash, will it work on an OSX cuz I am running Mavericks now

Has anyone got the DisplayPort to work?
Mine can connect to the TV with DisplayPort to HDMI cable. The Video works, but No sound

May I know what audio codec build in in your X220 ? Coz I cant get it working with my X1C where using ALC269VC.

My audio is Conexant 20672 SmartAudio HD.

I'm thinking to patch my bios and buy this wifi card: Dell HALF-MINI WIRELESS N CARD DW1515 ATHEROS AR5BHB92 AR9280 MINI CARD.

My x220 has 2 ssd's and triple boots os x, ubuntu and win 8.1 . As google gives me mixed feedback's, I thought better to ask then later to be sorry, anyone using this card in a thinkpad and a windows 7,8.x; are there good drivers for it and are there any problems using this wifi card on other systems then os x?

I've used that card with both Windows 7 64 bit and OS X with no problems. Never tried with Win 8 though
