When I tried to boot from USB KEY, it went to a screen with an apple on it and hung there for about 5 minutes, and then went to a gray screen.

So I held the power button down and now when I start up it stays with a screen with a blinking text promt like thing.

Any suggestions?

When you partition your disk you can clic on "Option" and you can choose between GUID (Apple since intel), ApplePArtition or MBR.

Try to boot in verbose mode (see my previous posts) and you will see what is going wrong !
By the way, can you edit your signature with the spec of your thinkpad ?

Actually LegacyX60T.kext does 3 different things:
-enable powermanagement (also related to smbios.plist)
-enable wifi for AR5BXB6 !!!
-enable Wacom Tablet (for X60t/X61t)

When you boot in verbose mode do you see some lines with atheros ?

Alright, thanks for the help everybody.

But it seems I have another issue.

I got to the MAC OSx install screen and it was going well for 5 or 10 minutes and then said "install failed, ask your software manufacturer" or something along that line.

I got all excited becuase the MAC interface was on and then. Nope. Not gonna happen.

Any suggestions this time?

PS Sebinouse; I believe our computers are exactly the same.

Although actually, I never partitioned HDDSNOW at all. So I will just try to partition it on GUID.

I have nothing else to lose.

I cant figure out what is going wrong. The Installer is stopping just short of finishing.

Does this mean I should use MBR instead of GUID?

Argh!!!!

If it crashes near the end it is a "good" sign ... go on with the guide it should work ...

I did what you said and set up SL and then shut it off.

I then turned it back on and the screen is full of lines.

Also I noticed that on the screen with the chameleon it says something about hibernation being outdated.

Any suggestions?

On the page with the chameleon it says hibernation is 134 seconds too old. use forcewake=y to override.

I have tried forcewake=y but does not help the screen

try to boot in safe mode (no kext loaded) : use the same method as verbose mode but type

Code: Select all

-x
You can combine both (verbose and safe mode :

Code: Select all

-v -x

Sorry but that hasn't worked. Should I try moving on with the guide? Or should it be able to work from step 3?

In verbose mode it says the hibernation message and another thing that caught my eye was something about a firewire warning.

I have got 2 USB 1.1 and 1 USB 2.0 ... don't know if it hardware or software related ...
you can try to boot in single mode "-s" and then use terminal commands to remove the kext and then boot with "-f" ... but I never tried ...

At the end of Step 3 you should have a working hackintosh ... just to be sure : you restored your retail/genuine DVD and installed chameleon and /Extra (+pfix) on the USB key. Then you you booted on this USB key and installed Snow on your disk (you may have an error it doesn't matter if it happens near the end of the installation). You installed chameleon and /extra (+ pfix) on this disk. And at last you booted on this disk ?

At the end you get a gray or blue screen (without apple) ... Is that correct ?(no kernel panic ?) if so you sould be able to boot in safe mode ("-x") ...

Umm, I am pretty sure I did all that.

I did use a hard drive that has a USB adapter.

So now that I have an 8GB flash drive I am just going to start all over.

It's weird though, because right after I install snow leopard and run chameleon and pfix and stuff, then boot and it works once I set it up.

But if I shut it down, then on startup it says the hibernation message. When I use forcewake=y then it says something about header image too large by 200px.

Any thoughts?

Has anyone gotten sleep to work on an X60s? I installed SleepWatcher" and "SleepWatcher Startup Items", added the scripts to /etc, and chmod +x them. My laptop goes into sleep fine (although the moon icon blinks continuously), but I can't get it to wake up. I just get a blank screen.

Are you sure that it is really a sleep?
I found that with my X60t, when I upgraded to 10.6.4, when I woke from sleep, the screen was actually very light.
ie the backlight did not turn on, so it looked like it was still a sleep.

After trying a few different things, I found that rolling back to 10.6.3 or 10.6.2 AppleIntelIntegratedFramebuffer.kext solved the issue and my screen would "wake" up.

This guide is great. I installed Snow Leopard successfully including updated from 10.6.0 to 10.6.4.
However, I still had some problems.
Here is my laptop, X60 1706-A78 specifications:
CoreDuo T2400(1.83GHz),
1.5GB RAM,
320B 7200rpm HD,
Intel 950,
Intel 802.11abg 3945 wireless,
It's all Intel-based chipset and hardware.

1. Wireless can't work, I didn't see anyone report wireless problem, is it intel 3945 problem?
I saw someone had a project in his website and facebook, but the download link is dead.

2. Trackpoint works but the middle scroll button can't work for pageup and down

3. Sound can't work.

Thanks Sebinouse work. I've tried many solution to install MacOS on my laptop. Like VMware, iBoot, many version snow leopard iso and dmg files.. all failed except this guide

I need to solve the wireless problem because I can't just use ethernet to access the internet

You'll have to swap out that WiFi card - it will not work.

That same one that came with my X60 but we had some T60's in the office and I swapped the card :)
The following and is the same as Apple has in there Mac's.
It comes up as and Airport Extreme with no hacking of any kexts.

@andycool Did you ever resolve your issue? I'm having the same problem where I install with an error at the end. It reboots fine and I set up oSX, but after that restarting causes either the hibernateion file out of date kernel panic or it goes to a screen where the right quarter is white and the rest is garbled and the cursor and menu show up on on the left quarter. It does the same thing whether I pfix the Etc kexts or leave it completely unchanged / load it in safe mode.

I installed to MBR, but I had to get new OSInstall, mpkg and OSinstall files for my 10.6.3 disc as I couldnt install with the ones on the first post, it would just hang.

I have an X60t with the intel wifi so I know that wont work, core duo 1.86, and 3gb of ram

Do you both have Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950?

If you want, I can tar/zip up my AppleIntelGMA950 kexts and any other files you think you require.

I have a X60t 1.5 Core 2 Duo.
Same GMA950 and everything works - acceleration, 1400x1050 sweet resolution ;)

Just a "side note" - when I was @ 10.6.3, I did have a similar white screen issue, and I rolled back to 10.6.2 AppleIntel950GMA kext.
But upon updating to 10.6.4, the screen (resolution/acceleration/saver) work perfectly.
So, maybe a update may solve your issues - with minimal effort.

Also, try: sudo pmset -a hibernatemode 0
To turn off hibernation while you troubleshoot.
Just boot into single user mode, -s at Chameleon and then mount your drive.

Remove the hibernation and swap files:
cd /var/vm
rm sleepimage swapfile?

The '?' will match 0,1,2 .. how many swapfiles have been created.

It's also a good time to let the system rebuild the kext cache files.

cd /System/Library/Caches/
rm -rf com.apple.kext.caches

The just issue reboot at the prompt.

I would appreciate the gma950 kexts, that is my chipset. I have the 1024x768 multitouch screen.
I tried reinstalling and running the 10.64 combo update and then running pfix. But on restart it still has the same banded screen. So frustrating since it works fine on the first boot, but even not applying pfix or running in safe mode gets the same result.

Also of note I have windows7 and my hard drive is partitioned mbr: | windows7 boot extra partition | win7 | osx | files |
I'm using the windows 7 bootloader now with EasyBCD and chameleon is installed on the osx partition. Running a repair install on osx gets me back to the same place every time where it boots the first time for setup but not the 2nd, but is nice since it doesn't destroy my boot again.

Turning off hibernation gives me this error:
sudo pmset -a hibernatemode 0 _CFGetHostUUIDString: unable to determine UUID for host. Error: 35

The same error happens when pfix runs:
diskutil repairPermissions

But repairPermissions from the gui diskutil works fine.

Thanks, but it didn't. Although I just threw them in the Extras/Extensions folder and ran plist again. Dunno if anything else was required, I'm new to this.

BUT, this did fix it! http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/lofive ... 08410.html
I just followed those instructions on my first boot and it happened that i was using the generic 717 EDID override. Putting my actual EDID in there which I got from my windows partition using this http://www.entechtaiwan.com/util/moninfo.shtm seems to allow me to boot most of the time now.
Anyone having screen distortion / blank screens or non native resolution options should make sure OSX is getting the right EDID for your lcd.

Now to try all those x60 kexts again to fix any other booting issues, and get my other hardware working...

Very interesting comment, can you share the source of your 10.6.3 files so I can update the first post ?

Intel Wifi Driver will be an everlasting project, just switch your wifi card. Sleep is tricky with the X60t, I manage to get mine working but when I added Ram it broke sleep (you can read my post on the first page about the hibernation mode) for the moment I gave up and I only use deep sleep which is working

Many of you seem to have trouble with the GMA950, and I don't understand why ... I supposed (until now) that there was only one type of GMA950 on X60T but I can see people with higher resolution than mine : I am stuck in 1024x768 in Windows XP and MacOSX.

My System Profiler gives :

Code: Select all

GMA950:

  Chipset Model:	GMA950
  Type:	GPU
  Bus:	Built-In
  Slot:	Built in
VRAM (Total):	64 MB of Shared System Memory
  Vendor:	Intel (0x8086)
  Device ID:	0x27a2
  Revision ID:	0x0003
  Displays:
Display:
  Resolution:	1024 x 768
  Pixel Depth:	32-Bit Color (ARGB8888)
  Main Display:	Yes
  Mirror:	Off
  Online:	Yes
  Built-In:	Yes
Display Connector:
  Status:	No Display Connected
Can you share yours in order to solve this issue for everyone ? Thanks

I can't remember the site, but it was the same as this one:

Mine is exactly the same as yours except for it says: Internal LCD Forced EDID for my display because I hacked the EDID override like I said in my previous post.
http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/lofive ... 08410.html

I don't know how useful this would be unless you have the same LCD (I have the x60t 1024x768 multitouch), but here's my EDID:
00FFFFFFFFFFFF0030AE02400000000002100103801812FF2F0000A057499B2610484F00000001010101010101010101010101010101641900404100263018883600F5B800000018000000FD00003C00EB0700000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000026

I have a feeling it's not actually the GMA950, but instead the actual LCD that has been causing so many problems for people because from what I read OSX is very finicky about EDIDs (unlike windows, which is happy to ignore them). People with higher resolutions have the same GMA950 just the pen only SXGA+ 1400 x 1050 LCD instead of the XGA 1024x768.

I have a weird situation now where it freezes on boot on the first cold boot, but works on the 2nd, here's where it freezes:
VoodooHDADevice[0x35d57000]::init
com.apple.AppleFSCompressionTypeZlib load succeeded
TIMEOUT numcmd=1, sent=1, received=0
TIMEOUT numcmd=1, sent=1, received=0
error: codec #1 is not responding, probing aborted

EDIT: The good boot still says that error, but continues happily the next line after on a good boot is:
Firewire power conservation disabled(2)

EDIT: It sometimes freezes on other lines, but always after VoodoHDADevice init, and will always boot on the 2nd (or very rarely on the 2nd time it will kernel panic)

Yeah, sleep doesn't work on mine either. Does it not like 3gb of ram?
Hibernate works if I uncheck use secure virtual memory (although setting hibernate mode to 5 may have also fixed this, but I'm not very concerned about encrypting my virtual memory).
