Hopefully a Lenovo tech or mod is reading this because I have been reading for 2 days straight and I can't get straight answers to a few questions. As far as I can tell, the V series IdeaPads do have an mSata port that was for the Intel 310 mSata SSD that Lenovo is no longer shipping. I BELIEVE that is why there is rapiddrive software on the support site for the V470. I THOUGHT i could use the rapiddrive software with my new Kingston 2.5" SSD that I just installed, but every time I run the pre-windows-setup tool, I get an error. I believe the reason I'm getting that error is because the bios shows that I have nothing in the "SSD" slot, and my Kingston 2.5" SSD actually shows up in the "HDD" slot. I'm assuming that special SSD slot in the bios screen is for the mSata port (my half height pci-express slot is being used by my Intel 6000 wireless card, but the full size slot right across from it is open... that is for an mSata SSD, correct?) Also, I have I'm running a 2nd gen core i7 on it's sandy bridge chipset (Intel Cougar Point HM65 Chipset) and I know WITHOUT A DOUBT that this board support 6Gbps Sata III, but it is disabled in the bios. For some reason Lenovo chose to rate limit it to Sata II 3Gbps... Can someone at Lenovo please explain?! That is half the reason I bought this laptop was because it was such a bargain for containing a chipset which was capable of running a 6Gbps Sata SSD at full speeds. Just like I added my Intel 6000 wireless card by hex editing the whitelist in the bios, I believe I can enable 6Gbps Sata III. I just want to be sure that Lenovo didn't disable it because of increased stress on the MB or something... and if not, WHY NOT ENABLE IT?! Seems crazy. Please help me with these questions someone!!

Darn, you got me all excited when I got email saying I had a reply. No input? Seems like a question NO ONE can answer... Obviously the engineers at Lenovo would know, but somehow I lost their # If only a local store had a 6gbps ssd, I could at least play around with the bios, & see if I could enable it...

Well ... where do i start ! NOPE- I DONT WORK FOR LENOVO nor IBM or any way connected to their support etc , I am happen to work for a company that USES IBM & LENO items - especially laptops. We buy over 1200 laptops a year for our internal use. I am not even a teckie person - but to have good understanding and like to keep up on tech side as a side hobby!

Commend you to look @ TECH SPECs in DETIAL and pick up on things that might be of use to you - use that to buy items you want /need.

I am sure you read the forum rules - and thus am forbidden to write to enable pple to do things that MIGHT BE not 'kosha' - not legal.
Modifying BIOS and or Modifying the altpop internals will VOID your warranty - and any software and or drivers would defaintly have someones 'legal coyright'. I am sure you understand pple's hesitation to say and or commit to even an answer on these topics when they on PHONE or in EMAILS.

AS a long term user of IBM/Lenovo laptops I cna assure you - they are no different to SONY or ASUS etc , who generally modify/change certain things so as so ensure THEIR DESIGN works - which is why they warranty things etc betc ,, Blah blah ,,,
SO say they CAHANGE things (and if that change results in other freatures not work) its generally not intended to prevent those things you talking about ie 6GBps etc etc...

I am not sure I can LEGALLY hep you break the Code for BIOS (which is owned by somneone else) and help u 'kinda' damage/distroy your laptop. blah blah blah ,,,,
even if this forum rules premit me to write a suggestion as to how to go around that , am legally bound from my company not to do that.

So far as writing some suggestions and steps as to how to get the 6GBps truely working - you might want to check some THINKPAD series (models) as none of the "IDEA" brands would support that. That WHY you pay extra for THINK brands!!


balh blah ,,,,,I cna write fewlots more ,,,, but end of day , your SSD would 'heatup internally - starved from fresh air to cool it , and you might damage few other 'internals"....
