Lenovo X220 survival, but at a cost....

I spilt soda on my Lenovo X220 keyboard and attempted to wash it off with some rubbing alcohol, with power off of course. Now I'm stuck with using a USB keyboard for the stock keyboard doesn't function.
For example: If I try to type "pc," the stock keyboard would type
\[pc

I don't know where the extra two characters have come from to my dismay.
Does anyone have any information on whether or not I can reset the keyboard values to stock configuration? This is becoming an impediment for my job, bringing a keyboard that is.

Is there any quick remedy for this situation of mine apart from buying a replacement?

thanks,

In addition to the kayboard error, the mouse seems to have taken part in the problem also. The mouse now seems to try to drag multiple files on the desktop when I try to move a single one, and the ability to use scroll wheel is gone in google chrome. It also seems to try to make a duplicate of any running process. The keyboard seems to be at caps lock by default.

Have you tried taking the keyboard apart and cleaning it? (removing all key caps and the metal shield for the trackpoint)

Replacing the keyboard sounds like it could be an easy and inexpensive fix.

There are only a few screws to remove. Even if you are all elbows it can be done in much less than 10 minutes.

Thanks for the replies.
Replacing the keyboard sounds like a good idea except for the mouse also being affected by this, and in this case it seems to to open a window when I try to left click.
I have a feeling the motherboard may br a fault, however finger-crossed that it it's the keyboard.

Thanks for the replies,

Keyboard and "mouse" (trackpoint) is single part so you replace both of them. Or you mean touchpad by "mouse" ?

Maybe He refers to touchpad and not to red trackpoint.
