Motherboard replacement problem

#1 Post by sgmidf » Sun Aug 10, 2014 2:42 pm

I have an X220 that showed an error with the network connector. I spoke with Lenovo and they arranged to replace it under warranty.
I wasn't home during the repair, but my wife called and told me that my x220 was not booting into windows 7 ultimate. It gets passed the login screen, there's the spinner and then it goes to a blue screen. The tech spoke with his technical support who was no help. I called CS and they agreed to send a new MB (different tech).
We I researched this error online (not for Lenovo though), it suggested that there was a driver problem and I would have to reinstall Windows with all of my programs as Windows won't see the new MB. I spoke with Lenovo again and they said there should be no problem with the swap...no need to reinstall.
Has anyone done this swap WITHOUT having to redo the drive? I have a disk image by windows backup but I would guess that that won't work if it has the old drivers...correct? I REALLY don't want to have to redo my whole system.

Thanks

There is no need to reinstall when a motherboard is replaced for one of the same kind, which I assume is what was done.

There can be some driver glitches in various scenarios, regardless of motherboard swaps, but they too can be repaired without the need to reinstall the entire OS from scratch.

Have you tried booting into safe mode?

Check in BIOS Config/SATA and change AHCI for Compatibility or v.v.

I tried that too. I changed to compatibility and got an error. I switched back to AHCI and ran startup repair. It ran forever but no go. It get's to the welcome screen and then a blue screen.

So maybe the new board is faulty. Or your hard drive is.

OK thanks. They're coming today so I'll let you know what happens. I was trying to avoid another service call.
