Post a WTB (want to buy) ad in the forum's Marketplace, hopefully someone reasonably close to you will have the screen available and be willing to swap it for you if you don't feel confident enough to do it yourself.JayNYC wrote:

You can purchase an LP125WH2(SL)(B3) for ~$70 and install it yourself. It's rather easy.

If i1Profiler gives sRGB, cd/m2, and contrast (or black) values for your LP125WH2_SLB1 please post them.
Look around for a LP125WH2-SLT1.
Watch a few 'replace screen thinkpad x220' videos and decide if it's something you, or one of your buddies, could do. Basically, you:
1. remove 2 screws
2. remove plastic cover (gently, so you don't snap it)
3. remove 4 screws (they hold display)
4. disconnect cable
Then do the same thing, in reverse order.

Re: X220 Best IPS Screen
Shopping for the best IPS for x220 in 2017.
I've carpet contacted a bunch of ebay sellers (in Europe).
Basically most of them clickbait you with genuine product codes but actually offer equivalent panels based on what's currently available in Asia. Here's a nice write-up about the issue:
http://www.laptop-lcd-screen.co.uk/blog ... reens.aspx
Now I'm torn between a 100% original B3 at around 100€ and an "equivalent to T1" at around 50€...
As for a 100% original T1 (the best IPS for the x220), they're extremely rare, unless you have the nerves to carefully remove them from an actual Thinkpad Twist S230U display assembly... (like the brave guy in the previous page did)

Re: X220 Best IPS Screen
That blog is 6 years old, and I do not believe one bit of it.
Things have changed a lot, but most LCD-suppliers are still lying about their "compatible" screens.
As for X220/X230 screens, I have looked for and bought (on eBay from different sellers) several used LP125WH2-SLT1 screens from an S230U Twist.
None of them came with a digitizer or touchscreen, they were all bare, glorious drop-ins.

Unfortunately I can't seem to find one.
I'm very close to just ordering the brand new genuine (SL) (B3).
I will report on the quality if I do.

If anyone wants to mail me their laptop, I'd be happy to help replace the screen for you. Just PM me. I live in San Francisco. Can also help install @nitrocaster's mod board for you as well (I have an EE degree and am very experienced with soldering).

Thanks for the interest everyone, looks I'm going to be helping out a few users here already! I'm also going to upload a YouTube tutorial video soon as well for those who feel comfortable soldering.

Re: X220 Best IPS Screen
Meanwhile my (SL)(B3) from ebay arrived...with a bent corner
I'm going to ask something incredibly dumb: is there any hope in straightening it back? (just curious for the moment, I'm not even taking it out the envelope until I hear back from the seller)
update: with the authorization of the seller I straightened the metal frame and the LCD broke in shards (under the film) in the corner...RIP one of the few genuine (SL)(B3) in my area..I should have imported a used Twist screen from the US..

Re: X220 Best IPS Screen
The seller was super nice and sent me a new B3.
I installed it and I'm perfectly happy with the colors and viewing angles.
Watching colorful youtube videos in 1080p (downscaled to 768p of course) is a joy for the eyes.
The T1 may be slightly better but honestly the B3 is perfectly nice.

Daily X230 user here. I was doing a quick research and came across this thread. I was wondering how long these LG IPS panels usually last, and how do they typically fail when they do? Thanks guys!

I doubt it. It's the Thinkpad Twist, AKA 230U, that came with the SLT1.thinkpad80 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 06, 2023 9:45 pmWas the SLT1 screen the default for the Thinkpad S1 Yoga 12?

Re: X220 Best IPS Screen
I'd like to post my thoughts and experience with the SL-B3 and the SL-T1. It's on an X230, but that doesn't make a difference. My X230 which I bought used came with an SL-B3 screen installed. The screen had three small marks where it was hit with something sharp that caused a few spots of white pixels. It didn't really affect anything, but after a while I wanted to fix it to make it look nicer. I read up on the IPS screens, and many people said that the T1 screen was either the same or better than the B3 screen. I was very happy with the B3 screen and I didn't have any of the issues that people complained about with the B1 or B2 screens. Anyway, while looking for replacement screens, where I am B3 screens are rarer than the more plentiful T1 screens which are pulled from otherwise near-worthless laptops. Being easier to find, a little bit cheaper, and supposedly the same or better than the B3, I bought the T1. Well, in my one anecdotal example here, the T1 turned out to be fairly worse than the B3. There is much more obvious ghosting and image retention on the T1 screen than the B3 screen. You might be wondering if the T1 screen is possibly a relabled inferior screen? Well, in software it shows up correctly, and it shipped along with the touch panel that it was pulled from the donor laptop with, so I'm fairly certain it is legitimate. Maybe this was just one random bad example or maybe not, but I plan on building another X230 early next year, and I will be sourcing a B3 screen for it...

Re: X220 Best IPS Screen
Give the huge variance in ghosting (really image retention) reports on the X220 IPS screens, even within the same model (B1, B3, T1), and even as a function of time, on the same unit, I have to wonder if the ghosting is not due to factors external to the panel (like electrical interference within the chassis, or how tight the connector is).
Anyhow, my B3 screen is still doing fine. It has visible image retention after static dark colors are displayed for a while, but it goes away fairly quickly too.

Re: X220 Best IPS Screen
I owned a X220 IPS for a short while, I gave it away and don't know what's become of it. I don't know what panel it had but I noticed the ghosting and was annoyed by it. Partly why I gave away the laptop lol.
Re: X220 Best IPS Screen
In my case it is 100% the panel. Everything was the same besides the panel, and I even connected the B3 again to confirm what I saw. However, the ghosting and image retention aren't as annoying as having the three small white blobs on the screen, so the T1 stayed.dr_st wrote: ↑Sat Dec 16, 2023 2:34 pmGive the huge variance in ghosting (really image retention) reports on the X220 IPS screens, even within the same model (B1, B3, T1), and even as a function of time, on the same unit, I have to wonder if the ghosting is not due to factors external to the panel (like electrical interference within the chassis, or how tight the connector is).

But you're right. These panels are all used and all over 10 years old. Who knows what they went through since manufacture. Lots of variables, and most people only have 1 or 2 single examples to compare.
