T410 - Speed Difference Wired vs. Wireless

#1 Post by nikki605 » Sun May 10, 2015 9:44 am

My T410 (Win7 x64 SP1) has an Intel Centrino Ultimate-N6300 AGN wireless card. I have Verizon FiOS 25/25Mbps internet using their provided Actiontec wireless router model MI424-WR Rev. F. The wireless card has the Intel PROSet Wireless Software, version 17.14.0 installed. The router is set to channel 11 and Compatibility Mode (802.11b/g/n).

Using the same speed test, just minutes apart, these are my results, wired vs. wireless:

Wired - 29.8/25.8Mbps
Wireless - 14.31/17.19Mbps (the laptop is within 10ft of the router, clear line-of-sight)

Is this a normal speed difference wired to wireless, or should it be better?
Gary A.

I have both the 6300 and the 6200 WLAN cards. I did a test using a Steam download with a 6200 wireless card using my 5ghz band. Average sustained download speed was 8.4mb per second with a max speed of 8.7mb. I was about 15ft from the wireless router. I do my speed tests in the dead of night when the airwaves are clear.
