half PCIe 3G + WiFi, Option GTM671W

#1 Post by u666sa » Mon Jan 19, 2015 1:13 am

ThinkPad W520 4270CTO, mSATA HDD

Hello forum, long time no see. Here is the situation, I use mSATA hard drive, along side with a regular hard drive, dropping optical drive isn't an option either. So I'm left with ether USB modems or express card 34 (which is cambersome because it will stick out), or half PCIe slot. I have found just the hardware that will fit into that half PCIe slot and it has 3G and WiFi. The only question is will it work, will it be compatible? So that is the question!

Here it is http://www.getwirelessllc.com/Option_Em ... f-PCIe.php

Device name is Option GTM671W, where Option is brand name, chinese of course, but then again China is making thinkpads. The darn thing costs around $100 USD or 5500 rubles from aliexpress or eBay.

By will it work, I mean of course will I be able to pop SIM card into back of my W520 and that thing will see that SIM card and then via software I'd enter connection information and it will connect.

Please advice.

Аctually Option is a Belgian brand name, but yes many microelectronic devices are made in China.

Will not.
99% - if you haven't patched bios it block ThinkPad with "Unauthorized Wireless Inserted" message.
100% - SIM card slot connected only to 1 mini PCIe slot and now it is occupied with mSATA :(

А я то обрадовался! Привет.

Okie. So let's say I abandon idea of mSATA SSD and go for WAN. I want 4G and not WiMax, I want LTE. Is there something that I could stick into full size slot and have LTE and so that the SIM card slot will work?

If there is something to my question above, then what you think about WD Black2, SSD and HDD in one package? Or should I drop DVD and stick HDD there? Actually I rearely use DVD but it often pops open because button is big, but I need it, because I have a business -- www.sochicomputer.ru -- computer repair and stuff in suborbs of Sochi.

Ok that's an option.

In that case which full size PCIe compatible card should I buy? I need 4G LTE (not WiMax)
