Bloatware removal?

#1 Post by DLDavis » Wed Apr 08, 2015 9:26 pm

Which auto-loading programs can I delete or disable via my task manager list w/o screwing up my w510? I'm starting by looking at simpletap.exe. What will I lose if I disable that?

don't know about that file, but run AdwCleaner on it. If you had/have anything at all, that program will find it, reboot to clean and in 5 minutes you can see the results of what it found. If it found nothing, then no worries (nothing major mind you) on the virus front but it ought to flush out some start up stuff for sure!

Or just try CCleaner, that will help you find all of your start up stuff, plus LOTS more and you can select/de-select to your hearts content!

That one is easy to google

Well I am not about the re-install Windows 7, its like when you call someplace for Tech Support. Did you reformat the HD and re-install [ Insert OS of your choice] yet?

Short of that I Run msconfig every once in a while you would be surprised at what gets added to the start up. Like the ever present Flash updater, and the like.

Anyway, I have on my W500 both the Lenovo ThinkPad Power manager and all the rest and of Course all the Windows Power manager loaded also. Why can't I get rid of one or the other? Seems they would be fighting for control?

If you have a Link to send me or some advise I would appreciate either = or both . Thank you.
