Evening All,

Quick one to run past you guys and girls - I've got a mate whose primary R61 ThinkPad (M/T: 8918-5QG) has died a death on him; oddly enough that's the second NVIDIA GPU based system (same model type) I've seen kick the bucket over the last few weeks.

We've managed to get a cheap replacement R61 ThinkPad (M/T: 8935-CTO/8935-W9N) with an X3100 GPU (only cost £30 at a car boot sale! lol) - provisionally the plan is to switch over the complete LCD assembly from the failed unit (15.4in 1680x1050 LCD) over to the working unit (15.4in 1280x800 LCD), so he'll get the hi-res screen back for working but also getting bluetooth support as well.

Would there be any issues with doing that due to the different GPUs used in the failed and working units or would it just be a question of plug it in and off you go?

Any input is greatly appreciated.
Cheers, :D

Should be plug and play.

Yes.

One small thing, though: if your old machine didn't have BT, but the new one does, you should switch the screens only.

Thanks Neil and ajkula66 - btw wouldn't the BT module work, if I transfer over the complete LCD assembly (especially as it would have the LCD assembly cable with BT support)?

Cheers :D

If the new machine doesn't have the BT, but the old one did, swap the entire LCD assembly.

In reverse conditions move just the screen.

If bot of them have it, you can go either way.
