R61i 7738-A52 - model not found at lenovo - need bios update
Hello, can someone please help me find bios update for my model?
I have tried lenovo in many different ways, and normally I have no problem finding these things myself, but my model is not recognized when searching Lenovo's support site. And the thing is that this model look like it has IEEE 1394 port, but its blocked by black plastic cap, just like if it were not implemented in this model.
R61i 14.1" Widescreen 1280x800 7738-A52
Hope someone can help:)
I want to move my Win7 Enterprise 32bit install to this laptop(can be done using sysprep, but need the bios update first).
with kind regards
JBJ
Admin could you mark this as solved, thanks - I'm not able to for some strange reason:(

Hi Neil, thank you for the reply:)
First, where do you see the Drivers & HMMs" link - I can't see it anywhere?
Second, I still can't find the bios for my model without IEEE 1394 - Can you?
EDIT: I just took apart the palmrest, and now its for certain that this model do not have IEEE 1394 port. It's put back together again now.
with kind regards

Hi, this is for anyone who find themselves in my situation.
1. click on the following link and download ThinkVantage System Update, for your version of Windows.
http://support.lenovo.com/en/documents/ht080136
2. Install ThinkVantage System Update. If asked to restart your, then do so.
3. Then follow this guide on how to use it.
http://support.lenovo.com/en/documents/ht003029
This is how I figured out to update my bios, hope it can help someone else.
Mod edit: please do not double-post!

Re: R61i 7738-A52 - model not found at lenovo - need bios up
Hi again, I apperently need an expert anyway since I can't find the 2.30 - 1.08 bios version for my model:(
The latest version I could install from above method, were 2.29 - 1.08
And when I installed that from Lenovo system Update 5, something strange happened that I hope someone can clear up - it gave me 2 choices:
1. Update bios
2. Update model number
should I have updated model number also?
Another strange thing is that in my bios my laptop is called R61 and not R61i - is that normal?
If I take warranty lookup at Lenovo's page, using the serial and model number - it shows R61i
Here is what SIW could get of info:

You have an R61 and not an R61i.
Middleton never bothered to make 2.30/1.08 because there is virtually no difference/improvement over 2.29/1.08.
And do NOT update the model number, leave that to the experts.

Hi RealBlackStuff, This is very strange its bought as an R61i and on my LCD panel it says R61i, where do you see that its only R61? I know when searching the net it pop up many times as R61 and not R61i - I also read somewhere(long time ago) that IBM and Lenovo had some problems with a shipment that went out with wrong model numbers, but if it were true or not or if it even were this model - that I'm not sure about.RealBlackStuff wrote:You have an R61 and not an R61i.

also some places it says that its based on 7738-1GG
Maybe you can clarify?
BTW, I didn't use Middleton bios update - I used system up date version 5.06 which updated the bios.
