I was on Paul Thurrott's and saw he solved some problems using the Troubleshooter. I had the Vista driver installed for this thing ago and it always installed fine and works (with Lenovo's application) but i wanted the default Windows 7 setup.

A few hours ago i right clicked the icon in Devices and Printers and did troubleshoot. It went through the whole thing but of-course didn't find a problem. A lil while ago i received a notice (in Action Center) that i had a solution to my problem!

Thinkpad Windows 7 Fingerprint Drivers - They might work for other devices made by UPeK, not just Thinkpads.

Now i get the options to play around with :)

So my fingerprint reader on my T500 is detected correctly and identified in Device Manager as an AuthenTec Inc. AES2810. I tried using the builtin utilities to enroll my fingerprints, but Windows 7 says "There are no fingerprint readers available at this time."

I then installed the latest Lenovo Fingerprint software from http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-70599 and was able to successfully enroll my fingerprints and enable the logon option. However, the Welcome screen does not display the familiar "Swipe your finger to logon" option.

Has anyone been able to use their T500 fingerprint reader to logon to Windows 7?

Immediately after posting my question and reporting the compatibility problem via the Windows 7 feedback tools, the Action Center provided me with a link to download updated drivers from http://www.authentec.com/win7update/W7Wbf64.exe. Problem solved.

In my T60 1953-EAU, I just installed the fingerprint software and enrolled. It's been working fine for me. Windows 7 is the only OS I used the fingerprint device in, as I had it disabled in the BIOS because I thought it was a gimick. However I really like it, and I do think my system is that much more secure now.

UPDATE:

I reloaded Windows 7 and the fingerprint software stopped working. This was on a fresh install of the OS. I did the action center thing and it's downloading the driver right now. Will post back to let you know if it solved my problem.

I got it working by using the following method:

I uninstalled the Lenovo fingerprint software.

I then removed the biometric coprocessor from the device manager and told it to also uninstall any drivers.

I then told it to scan for hardware changers. It picked up the driver, interestingly enough loading a different driver than the standard 'touchtek' driver it had loaded. I then hopped into the control panel, selected biometric devices and enrolled my fingerprint. Then I told it to replace the standard user logon with a fingerprint scan and it has been working great.

Funny thing is, in my prior install of Windows 7 I was able to get it to work just fine using Lenovo's software. This time I couldn't get it to work with that software even after multiple attempts.

Could somebody please mirror the 64-bit beta driver? The link on authentec's website is broken. Thanks!

Bit of an old thread but...

... I have also gone through this loop - many, many times with my TP T500 with its AES2810 fingerprint reader.

The reader was working fine. Then it stopped working a while back, and I found uninstalling the Lenovo software and letting Windows handle it (I think it used the Authentec software) worked. Then it stopped working (I believe after an update) and would not work again.

Since then I've installed, rebooted, uninstalled, rebooted so many drivers and versions of user software, I've searched form after forum, followed lots of slightly different methods of fixing this problem, NONE of which worked.

So right now, I'm back to square one.

Symptoms
Logging into Windows, the fingerprint login logo pops up with a 'please wait' message, which remains unchanged for as long as the battery lasts. Logging in instead using a password, the Lenovo software seems to try and load - I see a splash screen, then nothing happens. Exactly the same thing happens when starting the Lenovo software via the control panel.

Interestingly (or not, depending on your point of view), experimentally installing Authentec's TrueSuite software (the reader is made by them), after of course uninstalling Lenovo's software, results in almost exactly the same symptoms, except that the reader appears to be alive all the time: brushing it with my hand or finger pops up a splash screen, then an application screen appears very briefly and promptly disappears too quickly to see what it says.

Going to User Accounts in the control panel and asking to manage fingerprints from there brings up a dialogue box saying that there's either no reader installed or another program has control of it. After experimentally disabling the reader in the BIOS, the same box pops up, suggesting that the reader cannot be seen. I've tried starting the Windows Biometric service manually - it doesn't seem to start automatically - and this makes no difference.

Hardware
I'm running Windows 7 32-bit. I have installed (and uninstalled and re-installed) the latest Lenovo software and driver. The hardware is recognised and Windows reports it as working fine. There are no errors showing in device manager and there are no relevant errors in Windows' event logs.

If anyone has any bright but non-obvious ideas (I've tried everything obvious and quite a few non-obvious things too) then I'd be glad to hear them. Before all my hair is torn out....

Thank you.

I have a T500 running Windows 7 Pro. I am a rookie freshmen, so please be kind. I have tried uninstalling it in msconfig with the startup and services tabs and went into the BIOS and made sure it was correct. I know I unchecked the right boxes (advice from a senior with 25 years experience). So now what? The irritating Fingerprint Logon logo continues to show up.

Can someone help me please. I don't want to use the Fingerprint Scanner, a password will do. Please help. tt

Have you tried:
control panel > Hardware and Sound > Biometric Devices >Use your fingerprint with Windows > which should bring up the ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software window. Type your login password, and at the top, select "Settings" and in the Windows authentication window "deselect" Use fingerprint scan instead of password when logging into Windows.

If you have already tried that, I don't know but will look at other options.

phubai, hey thanks a lot, your instructions were clear and now the annoying fingerprint logo does not appear at logon. What I had to do was create a Windows Password before I could access the fingerprint management settings; I had not been doing that before.
Control Panel
Hardware and Sound
Lenovo's Notebook Fingerprint Reader
CREATE a Windows password (no access to Settings without pw)
Serrings on the top menu bar
Uncheck Fingerprint logon

thanks again to phubai.

Just what I was looking for. Wierdly Lenovos new support page for the X61t does not link to these driver pages.

So there's 2 options here:

- The UPEK Driver that comes from Windows 7 - Windows Update
- The TV FingerPrint Reader Software

Which one is better to use? Pros vs Cons..? Any one got some comparisons?

I can take a look and let you know. But what types of configurable options do you mean? Does TV one have them?

PS: Would one of them be more secure/better than the other?

Like these...

Not sure if the security level is different between the drivers, but if you have files stored on your PC that the NSA or FSB wants, you better use something other than fingerprint to secure your PC. : )

I tend to think fingerprint alone is more of a deterrent than a reliable security solution.

Cheers.

Hello,

Has anyone run into this issue and resolved it?

I was able to use the biometric reader (AES2810) to logon to the system - firsttime login or to unlock.

Original Setup: Lenovo Thinkpad T500 Intel Centrino Duo Core 2 P8700 2.53 GHz 3GB Ram Win 7 Pro 32

I have since refreshed (overwritten) with Win 7 Ult 64.

Now, I can successfully logon, but whenever I attempt to unlock the system after locking or putting it to sleep, it does say "Fingerprint Logon - Swipe Your Finger" and after swiping it returns the following message: "This computer is locked. Only the logged on user can unlock the computer."

I've tried to delete the fingerprint registration and re-register my fingerprint, but no change.

Any suggestions?

Thanks, Ed
