Help me choose a new phone plan!

#1 Post by Whitieiii » Wed Feb 01, 2017 8:02 am

What cellphone plan do you have? I'm looking to upgrade my plan... i'm in the usa and I have 8gb of 4G LTE with unlimited 2G and unlimited calling and texting via Page Plus who runs off Verizon's towers for $55/month but I have no tethering the plan works great for me except I need to have tethering when going out since I'm never near public wifi and after going without it for so long it just bothers me more and more every day

I would love to have the most amount of tethered data with tethered speeds at or above 10mb/sec down (since that's what the fastest home internet speed is here and I have it) for the lowest price but that might not be possible I can get Cricket Wireless with 13 GB of 4G LTE and tethering for $80 per month ($75 per month with auto pay) but that's high! Tmobile and sprint don't get much bars if not none here so I don't want anyone running off their towers.... Verizon has best service here with ATT a close second so really anybody who runs on Verizon or Att's towers will work....

Any and all suggestions will be helpful

High compared to what? I consider anything less than $10/GB to be a good deal.

H2O is an AT&T MVNO with some cheaper plans but it sounds like they might prohibit tethering:

AT&T itself has $100/mo "unlimited" 4G if you also have their TV service. (Possible throttling if you exceed 22 GB in a month.)

Any really low-cost data plans will be on Sprint or T-Mobile networks unfortunately.

Ok I might just have to get a secondary plan with tethering or a data only plan since I think my plan is good but just doesn't have tethering... if I had to go with sprint or tmobile, I would choose sprint over tmobile as tmobile is worse here in my area but both of those still aren't as good and don't come anywhere near Verizon or ATT's signal... I would only use this line for data (even if it includes calling and texting) and would only need to use it at most 1 week per month since I'm at home most of the time but if I need to go out for the day I'm normally at places that don't have any wifi around and me just sitting around waiting for dad at work or something like that a laptop is a better choice than my phone

If you're mostly expecting 'spike' usage rather than every day you may want to look at http://www.internet-go.com ; they have pre-paid data-only plans with 2 GB for $29 that never expires and no monthly charge. Sort of the hotspot equivalent of a TracFone. Or an AT&T GoPhone with their daily plan ($2/day only on days you use it and $1/100 MB for data).

thank you! I went with Verizon's new "unlimited" plan since it gives me most amount of data per month for both on device usage and via mobile hotspot... I don't know how fast the "3G" reduced speeds will be for mobile hotspot but if it is at least 5MBPS down than it will be about the same speeds as my home internet... I went with them because in my area both t-mobile and sprint in my area ranges from the slow end of 3G speeds at best to none at all and nobody will even get 4G or 4G LTE with them here..... most MVNO's that run on ATT and Verizon here don't include mobile hotspot and if they do they won't allow it in some of the highest plans.... ATT only gives me 6GB for around the price of the other guys so Verizon's "Unlimited" plan will be the best for speeds and will include the most amount of data with hotspot included in plan and yes I treat it as 22GB/month and 10GB/month since if "3G" speeds are slower than 5MBPS down than I don't want to experience that

Not sure how Verizon defines '3G speed' but I've used actual 3G hotspots on Sprint and Verizon networks and normally they wouldn't go over 2.5 Mbps and sometimes below 1 Mbps. That's still much much better than the 2G fallback that most 'unlimited' plans have.

By comparison, I've gotten as high as 50 Mbps through hotspot on my Verizon 4G tablet.

$80 for 10GB of Verizon 4G sounds like a pretty good deal.

all Verizon plans over 8GB of limited data on consumer plans are grandfathered only plans now.... $80 is now the "unlimited" plan
