Upgrading USB version of external HDDs

#1 Post by dandreye » Tue Jan 24, 2017 10:22 am

Hi All,

Would a USB3.0 external disk enclosure like this one:
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/ORICO-3 ... 05856.html

be an adequate replacement of native WD ones in the following external HDDs being network shared by the home router they're attached to:
- WD My Book Essential 250GB (desktop) with a WD Caviar SE 250GB SATA HDD inside (e.g. WD2500JS/KS, up to ~95MB/s at SATA interface, current bottleneck = USB2.0)
- WD Elements 2TB (desktop) with a WD Caviar Green 2TB SATA HDD inside (e.g. WD20EARS, up to ~110MB/s at SATA interface, current bottleneck = USB2.0)

If not are there any enclosures or adapters worth considering, e.g. something like this one maybe?

Many thanks in anticipation!
