Being a tech website I thought this might be the best place to ask. I run linux and use a flash drive to store files. What would be the best method for securing it? I would prefer plug 'n play, but I'm open to all possibilities.

Truecrypt can be sniffed by COFEE, but I suppose nothing is invulnerable. I'll check it out, thanks for the suggestions.

Truecrypt is extremely safe. So far I haven't heard of a truecrypt encrypted system cracked by anyone, law enforcement included. I use it myself daily.

For Linux, the standard encryption solution is LUKS. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linux_Unified_Key_Setup and also http://code.google.com/p/cryptsetup.

It is typically integrated in the usual Linux distributions. Debian offers installation into a LUKS encrypted LVM in its installation routine.

I make about five 3 GB encrypted containers using TrueCrypt. I store all the data I want to backup from my hard drive inside these containers. I then store the encrypted 3 GB files on my BlackBerry's micro SD card. I even store a copy of TrueCrypt on the micro SD card. It's an off site backup in my pocket! (The reason for the 3GB files is the micro sd card doesn't seem to support larger files.)

+1 for TrueCrypt. Put it on a FAT partition and you can open the container on any OS.
