They have a new stub installer, it can be run inside of windows, it will run a compatibility check similar to the Windows 7 upgrade advisor, then will download and install W8 RP to your PC, I tried it on my W8 Consumer Preview and it kept my user created folders on the C drive after upgrading, it did remove all my installed programs though, created a windows.old folder with all the old data. I recommend running disc cleanup after upgrading, run the clean up system files option, it will allow removal of the windows.old and the upgrade installation files, which will free up quite a bit of space.

Stub installer on this page

If you want the ISO files see this page

ENJOY!

It should, I have a t60 with e t2400, I will try the 32bit installer.

Did you use the stub installer or boot off the dvd?

Edit, I just ran the stub installer and it said my T60 was good to go.

Edit 2. oh, you may need to upgrade to 1gb ram.

Release preview crashes the Nvidia WDDM driver and restarts every few minutes on my T61p, BUT only when running on battery. This has NOT happened with the developer preview or consumer preview on this same machine.

I also picked up a 22" Dell infrared touch (two touch points) monitor to try out Windows 8 on. Edge swipes are hardly working but it's a joy to once again have an IPS monitor, even despite the glossy dark and very reflective screen cover. The monitor can be laid nearly flat, too, but typing on the screen is strictly a one-finger affair and pen entry isn't enabled at all.

On a related note, a touchpad driver is not going to be available for existing Thinkpad models. Synaptics says that the Touchpad on the Thinkpads connects as a PS/2 mouse and does not provide the throughput needed for two-and-more-finger swipes. I haven't figured out HOW to emulate a mouse scroll wheel, but I can say that center button + pointer and horizontal edge swipes do not horizontally scroll a Metro app like weather. I can use the scroll wheel using the mouse from my desktop (using "Mouse without Borders" from Microsoft Garage) and do horizontal scrolling that way, however.

I've seen a lot of folks saying that the Metro Start menu is a mess. I don't disagree, but if one right-clicks the tiles that he does not want to show and then selects "Unpin from Start" the extra tiles will be removed. For example, VLC Media Player put about four items in the Windows start menu, including "Uninstall" and "Reset VLC media player..." Unpinning tiles does not delete the menu items. To make them (all) reappear, right-click and select "All apps" in the lower bar.
