Hi, all --

My purchase decision is between the T530 and the W530.

Does anyone know the difference in performance between the T530's NVS 5400M and either the W530's K1000M or K2000M graphics??

Unfortunately, the sales guy I talked with drew a complete blank.

Thanks

Performance of the K2000M is mentioned in the last post of this thread:

It's probably faster than the 540M, but not as fast as the 640M/650M that Lenovo should be shipping their high end laptops with :-P

Thanks!

So far, we have just ambiguity ... hopefully the magazine reviews can fill in some blanks.

I would say the K1000M will almost certainly be much faster than the NVS 5400M.
The last three generations the entry-level "workstation" class Quadro had roughly double the 3DMark scores of the NVS used in the T series. (Same comparison would also apply to Dell Precision vs. Latitude GPUs.)
i.e.
1000M vs. NVS 4200M
880M vs. NVS 3100M
770M vs. NVS 160M

The NVS is a crippled Quadro intended for 2D and multi-monitor use. Some cheapskates outfit 3D CAD workstations with NVSes which is crazy.

If you work with 3D such as Solidworks, ProE or Inventor than avoid NVS like the plague. If you only do Photoshop or AutoCAD or such though, I suppose you are fine.

Or software development. :) I bought a super cheap NVS - fanless - for my desktop on eBay and it works great. Nice, crisp text and look ma - no fan noise.

As a practical matter, the NVS for the T530 drives video on a 30" 2560x1600 display smoothly and without effort. It's pretty clear that it has good head room for most common tasks ... good news!
